ABOUT US

Born in the Kom Pong Cham province of Cambodia, the two sister owners/operators of this family run restaurant immigrated to the United States only a few years ago. To give a little of their backstory, their parents were married in 1977 under severe duress in one of the Khmer Rouge's many concentration camps near the Thai border. After liberation, the family moved the two sisters, Kimsan

and Kimly, to the cosmopolitan and formerly French colonized city of Phnom Penh, where they were exposed to a mixture of regional cuisines. In their late twenties, wanting to make a fresh start in America and with the famous 90 day fiance visa's in their hands , Kimsan and Kimly came to America. They brought with them the desire to recreate the wonderful tastes of Southeast Asia in their new home in Oklahoma.

MangoTree Cafe is very proud of its award winning Pho!

What is Pho? Pho (pronounced "fuh") is a deeply flavorful Vietnamese noodle soup that is widely considered the country's national dish. It’s comforting, aromatic, and all about a carefully crafted balance of textures and fresh flavors. A classic bowl of Mangotree Cafe Pho is built from four main components:

The Broth: This is the soul of the dish. It is traditionally made by simmering beef stock for hours with charred ginger, onions, and a distinct blend of warming spices like star anise, cloves, cinnamon, coriander seeds, and cardamom. A good broth is incredibly rich and complex.

The Noodles: Soft, flat rice noodles.

The Meat: In beef pho, you will find a mix of thinly sliced raw beef (which cooks instantly when the boiling broth is poured over it), brisket, flank, or even meatballs.

The Fresh Toppings: Pho is highly customizable. It is always served with a side platter of fresh herbs and garnishes so you can dress your bowl exactly how you like it.

How to Eat It. When your bowl arrives at the table, it’s standard practice to taste the pure broth first. Then, you can customize it by adding:
Fresh bean sprouts for crunch.
Sweet Thai basil torn by hand to release its oils.
A squeeze of fresh lime for acidity.
Sliced jalapeños for heat.
Hoisin sauce (for sweetness) or Sriracha (for kick), either drizzled directly into the broth or kept in a small side dish for dipping the meat.

It’s typically eaten using chopsticks (or a fork!) in one hand to guide the noodles and meat, and a soup spoon in the other to enjoy the broth!
