Morgan County—Many of you have asked me, almost daily, “April, who should we vote for in the runoff June 16th for Revenue Commissioner?”
That decision belongs to each voter. My goal is simply to provide information and encourage citizens to review the public record for themselves.
I recently saw an endorsement from the outgoing superintendent for John Holley. Political endorsements often signal to voters that two individuals share similar views, priorities, or records of leadership. Mr. Holley has emphasized his experience in government and public service, so it is reasonable for voters to evaluate that experience and decide what it means to them.
During my own campaign for Revenue Commissioner, I intentionally avoided focusing on Board of Education controversies because I wanted to run on my own qualifications, experience, and vision for the office. As I am no longer a candidate, I feel more comfortable discussing matters that are already part of the public record.
One issue that generated significant public interest was the Brewer High School athletic facilities project, which was awarded at approximately $13.9 million.
According to the April 24, 2025 Board meeting video, Mr. Holley requested that action on accepting the low bid on the project be tabled. The matter was postponed. According to the May 8, 2025 Board minutes, Mr. Holley was not present at that meeting. Those same minutes reflect that accepting the low bid on the Brewer project was approved unanimously as part of the Consent Agenda.
My question is simple: When and where did the discussion surrounding this project take place? I cannot find public board minutes reflecting any mention of it prior to the agenda item “accept the low bid.”
Since at least January 2026, many citizens have asked questions, and requested greater transparency regarding major capital expenditures and project priorities. Questions were raised about why this project was prioritized over other facility needs and routine maintenance items.
I encourage everyone to review the meeting videos, Board minutes, financial records, and other public documents for themselves. Don’t take my word for it—or anyone else’s.
Review the record. Examine the facts. Then decide whether the level of transparency and accountability demonstrated by Board leadership met your expectations.
If anyone has documentation showing where these questions were publicly answered in detail by the Superintendent or a Board Member, I would genuinely welcome seeing it.
That’s all for today.
I hope this helps!
Remember to vote June 16th in the runoff for Morgan County Revenue Commissioner!
