A sneak peak at what’s to come next month..
If you had the chance to catch us at this year’s Evanston MashUp we may have already graced your lips with one of the best and most exciting experiments we’ve had yet to date here at Ward Eight.
Releasing next month until sold out, let’s us present to you,
Ex-Wheated Bourbon Barrel Solera Aged Green Chartreuse.
For 15 months we’ve been aging, tasting, and topping off a barrel in house with Green Chartreuse. Famously Chartreuse Diffusion releases a special bottling each year known as V.E.P.(Vieillissement exceptionnellement prolongé), an expression of green or yellow Chartreuse barrel aged at the monastery for an undisclosed amount of time.
Thanks to Chartreuse’s continued support of our program here at Ward Eight we wanted to put together something special that pays homage to the best liqueur in history while trying something uniquely us. What’s been discovered is absolutely incredible.
The depth of char from the barrel has softened the proof and stripped the iconic green hue to a golden hay. On the nose the oak and floral notes explode in a field of perfume reminiscent of an autumn sunrise. The palate is kind, as unctuous as honey but as herbaceous as a garden apothecary. The finish leaves your mouth fluffy like a marshmallow cloud with a tack that keeps you cracking your tongue before your dive in for another pull.
This is not one to sleep on. Barrel cracks open next Wednesday!
