A Taste of Muriale’s History
from Rocco’s Table

Before Muriale’s opened its doors in 1969, the foundation of our family’s story was being built through hard work, sacrifice, and a determination to create something better for future generations.

“My Father, Frank Muriale, ran the coffee shop at the Uptowner, worked in the kitchen at Minard’s, and painted houses on the side with Uncle Sam. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army.”

“My grandfather, Rocco Muriale, worked as a butcher and member of the slaughterhouse crew at Young & Stout, as well as a driver. He was the first person to teach me how to fabricate a side of beef. Even after Muriale’s opened, he grinded beef for sauces and other kitchen uses. He also took pride in maintaining the restaurant grounds.”

“Uncle Sam proudly served in the U.S. Army, worked for the State Road, the state liquor stores, cooked and tended bar at Twin Oaks, and even learned to weld from neighborhood friends. In the mid-1960s, he welded the iron wall that still stands at Twin Oaks to this day.”

Today, Muriale’s still carries the fingerprints of the men who helped build it. Their pride in a job well done, strong work ethic, dedication to family, and their quiet example became the foundation of Muriale’s and remain part of who we are today.

This Fathers Day we honor Rocco’s father Frank, grandfather Rocco, and Uncle Sam, along with all fathers whose hard work, guidance and example are helping shape future generations.
