The Washington Commanders are being sued by The Native American Guardians Association, which has been trying to get the Commanders to change the name back to Redskins.
The lawsuit states:
“The logo on the Redskin’s helmet is an actual person, it’s Chief White Calf. Every time they go out on that field, they were honoring Chief White Calf and they were battling on the football field with the same honor and integrity and courage. They should continue to honor that.”

If your town has an Old Wire Road on its street maps, you may be surprised to learn that there’s some interesting history behind it. It started as part of the Osage Trace, a trail that Native Americans used to migrate to and from various areas during hunting season. By 1832, many tribes had been driven from the area. By 1836, the part of the trail that extended from Versailles, Missouri to Fayetteville, Arkansas became known as “The Fayetteville Road.”
From 1858 until 1861, the Postal Service used the road as part of their Butterfield Overland Mail Route (pictured), a 2800-mile journey between San Francisco and St. Louis. Stagecoaches traveled the Butterfield Trail across the country to various points in Arkansas and up through Missouri, carrying letters, passengers and freight. The trip took twenty-four days, and coaches made the trip twice a week.
In 1860, telegraph wires were put up along the trail from St. Louis to Ft. Smith. The trail then became known as “Telegraph Road.”
During the Civil War, the road was referred to as “The Military Road,” and was used by troops to move between Missouri and Arkansas.
After the War had ended, it was referred to as “The Wire Road,” due to the telegraph wires. From the 1840’s until 1877, the telegraph was the fastest way to transmit news and messages across the country.
Around 1877, the invention of the telephone made telegraphs obsolete, and the telegraph wires were taken down. Wire Road then became known as the “Old Wire Road.”

WELL TODAY IS THE 4TH DAY OF THE RIDE AND SUPPOSED TO BE THE LAST DAY BUT THEY DECIDED TO ADD 2 MORE DAYS TO MAKE IT IT TO CANNONBALL, ND. SO LOOKS LIKE I AM SLEEPING IN MY TRUCK AGAIN TONIGHT WAS A LOT MORE FUN WHEN I WAS 20 THAN 60. THIS HONORING THE CHIEFS RIDE IS AMAZING. THE KIDS STOP AT EVERY CEMETERY THAT THE OLD CHIEFS ARE BURIED AT AND HONOR THEM. TODAY I LEARN THE STORY AT THE GRAVE OF A WOMAN WHO WAS AT THE BATTLE OF THE LITTLE BIG HORN AND WHEN HER BROTHER WAS KILLED SHE STEPPED UP AND TOOK HIS PLACE. GOT YO MEET SOME WONDERFUL ELDERS WHO STOPPED TO HELP ME WHEN MY TRUCK HAD A PROBLEM. WHAT TOUCHED ME IS THEY SAID THEY COULDN’T LEAVE BEHIND. ANOTHER AMAZING MOMENT
IS AS WE WOULD PASS HORSES OUT IN PASTURES THEY WOULD ALL RUN TO THE FENSE AND WINNY LIKE THEY WERE HONORING THE RIDERS AND THEIR HORSES AND IT HAPPENED MANY TIMES.
I WISH ALL OF YOU COULD FEEL AND SEE WHAT I SEE. IT’S LIKE A HEALING JOURNEY FOR ALL. SO MUCH BAD IN OUR WORLD FOR OUR YOUTH AND SOME CANNOT TAKE THE STRESS AND TAKE THEIR YOUNG LIVES OR TURNED TO THINGS THAT ARE A VERY DARK TRAIL. I SEE LITTLE LIGHTS OF HOPE LIKE SEEDS COMING TO LIFE…
