Hi All - There is someone very near and dear to our hearts here at Atomic who could use a little extra support. We're asking you to help out our dear friend Amy Noer by donating to her Lend a Hand Up Fundraiser. Amy is an amazing person who radiates joy to all those she encounters. She works as an addiction counselor, helping people in our community with some of their deepest struggles. Now it is our time to rally around Amy and her wife, Mackenzie, as they are away from their careers fighting to find answers to save Amy's life. ❤️‍🩹

In September Amy Noer got what she thought was the flu. She became extremely lethargic as well as having vision issues, so she was admitted to the ICU. Amy was diagnosed with pneumonia, sepsis, kidney injury, and a heart injury that put her into heart failure. After spending most of October in the hospital with continued testing, there were still no answers. She is now at Mayo with a whole team of specialized doctors working to solve this mystery that has attacked Amy's body and work to discover a treatment plan. There is so much hope for recovery, but there is a very long road ahead.

🧟‍♀️ Like a zombie we’re rising from our little social media break to let you know about three fun events going on in downtown today:

Today is the second to last Red River Market 😢 We love market days. Seeing all the local vendors, creators and you come together to create magic every Saturday makes us feel joy. Seriously - to all those who make us part of your market routine we are honored. 🙏🏼

Today is also the Make-A-Wish North Dakota Trick or Treat Wish Walk from 10a-2p. Thanks to Downtown Fargo for making events like these happen in our community. We are so excited to see all the littles in their costumes later today.

And last, but certainly not least, we have the frames_magazine reception today at 1pm. Our artists of the month come from all over the United States (and a few from around the world) to showcase their photography skills. A special thanks to W. Scott Olsen for helping arrange such a special show in our space. ✨

Our Summer Menu features refreshing flavors from around the world. 🌎 Meet the first drink from our summer menu: The Knafeh Latte. This latte was inspired by the Palestinian dessert KNAFEH. We’ve crafted this beverage using milk, espresso, rose syrup and orange blossom water. It’s topped with a cheese cold foam and crushed pistachios.

We’re suppose to post about our summer menu but the light this morning just so happened to hit the work of our surprise guest artist’s prints so perfectly that the drinks can wait.

This month we wanted to surprise someone who is very important to us - Jenny Junker of Jenny Junker ✨

Jenny stole our heart years ago when she was an art student studying print making at MSUM. She has been part of the fabric of Atomic Coffee in various ways since then as a barista, social media manager and art coordinator.

We wanted to honor Jenny as our artist of the month because next month she has her first SOLO show TheRourkeArtGallery+Museum 🎉🎉🎉 Come see some of her old work on our walls (we have personally collected a lot of her work over the years…enough for an impromptu show) , go to Unglued to snag some of her prints, and make a plan to go see her work that will be on display from August 14th - September 27th.

This week we said a final goodbye to one of those customers who comes in so often and regularly that they feel like family. We have had the pleasure of serving Paul for decades. He gets mentioned when interviewing for new staff, as all of our regulars are a very important part of our mission.

Paul quickly becomes every new staff’s favorite. In fact, many other evening regulars got to know and love him over the years. He was kind, consistent, reliable, and always wanted to put a smile on your face. When he would arrive to an empty shop he would say things like: “I don’t know how I’m going to find a spot to sit” or “you need me to get the crowd under control?” He came in every evening for a plain black cup of coffee.

When he passed away a couple of weeks ago our barista poured him a cup and put it in “his” spot. Paul - there will always be a cup of black coffee and a spot reserved for you in each of our hearts. ❤️😢😭

Did you know that May is MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS month? We’ve been giving out stickers to help spread awareness and fight the stigma surrounding mental health.

We’ve also been distributing 988 sleeves on our coffee cups the past couple of weeks. We want people to know there is always someone to listen to your struggles and that no matter how isolated you may feel, you are never alone.

We think our artist of the month, Ethan Hinton, was the perfect choice for May. His photography is about the beauty we can find in everyday life. He finds this in the seemingly mundane objects, or settings, when taking the time to pause.

We encourage you to check in with loved ones, smile at a stranger, or extend a hand to a neighbor this month. Maybe even set up a coffee date with a friend to check out our artist of the month and try one of the drinks on our spring menu.🫶🏼

We’ve been dreading posting about these two iced beverages on our spring menu. They were centered around some strong feelings we have had since the last election and the “man” put in charge of our country. We’ve paired them together because the topics go hand in hand.

In the Midwest, we sometimes live in a little bubble and cannot see past our own experiences. However, it is imperative we remove our rose-colored glasses and look at both history and current factual data. How does a man so aligned with white supremacy get voted into office in the first place? How does a man who makes a mockery of other humans by posting memes of them as monkeys still hold such a high position? He can say it was just a joke, but his record of discrimination proves otherwise. Sounds like some serious MONKEY BUSINESS to me. This is where the WHITE DREAD comes into play.

As a proud German from Russia (there are a lot of us in this region) I can say I’m filled with white dread. This doesn’t mean I’m not proud of my heritage, it just means I’m not scared to see how my whiteness has given me privileges not granted to all. We urge you to reflect and do the same.

Ta-Nehisi Coates states in his book “Between the World and Me”: “What I want you to know is that this is not your fault, even if it is ultimately your responsibility.” We’ll leave you to meditate on that.

As someone who has volunteered with RACC for nearly a decade, we’ve had the chance to see the impact of their work up close.

Today, we’re sharing something important: The R**e and Abuse Crisis Center is now Sollera.

While the name is new, the work remains deeply rooted in advocacy, support, and walking alongside victim-survivors with care.

This new brand helps to encompass the full scope of their work and ensure that language isn’t a barrier for people who don’t see their own experience in the words r**e, abuse, crisis.

Worth knowing. Worth supporting.
