Did you know that May is MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS month? We’ve been giving out stickers to help spread awareness and fight the stigma surrounding mental health.

We’ve also been distributing 988 sleeves on our coffee cups the past couple of weeks. We want people to know there is always someone to listen to your struggles and that no matter how isolated you may feel, you are never alone.

We think our artist of the month, Ethan Hinton, was the perfect choice for May. His photography is about the beauty we can find in everyday life. He finds this in the seemingly mundane objects, or settings, when taking the time to pause.

We encourage you to check in with loved ones, smile at a stranger, or extend a hand to a neighbor this month. Maybe even set up a coffee date with a friend to check out our artist of the month and try one of the drinks on our spring menu.🫶🏼

We’ve been dreading posting about these two iced beverages on our spring menu. They were centered around some strong feelings we have had since the last election and the “man” put in charge of our country. We’ve paired them together because the topics go hand in hand.

In the Midwest, we sometimes live in a little bubble and cannot see past our own experiences. However, it is imperative we remove our rose-colored glasses and look at both history and current factual data. How does a man so aligned with white supremacy get voted into office in the first place? How does a man who makes a mockery of other humans by posting memes of them as monkeys still hold such a high position? He can say it was just a joke, but his record of discrimination proves otherwise. Sounds like some serious MONKEY BUSINESS to me. This is where the WHITE DREAD comes into play.

As a proud German from Russia (there are a lot of us in this region) I can say I’m filled with white dread. This doesn’t mean I’m not proud of my heritage, it just means I’m not scared to see how my whiteness has given me privileges not granted to all. We urge you to reflect and do the same.

Ta-Nehisi Coates states in his book “Between the World and Me”: “What I want you to know is that this is not your fault, even if it is ultimately your responsibility.” We’ll leave you to meditate on that.

As someone who has volunteered with RACC for nearly a decade, we’ve had the chance to see the impact of their work up close.

Today, we’re sharing something important: The R**e and Abuse Crisis Center is now Sollera.

While the name is new, the work remains deeply rooted in advocacy, support, and walking alongside victim-survivors with care.

This new brand helps to encompass the full scope of their work and ensure that language isn’t a barrier for people who don’t see their own experience in the words r**e, abuse, crisis.

Worth knowing. Worth supporting.

🌎Happy Earth Day 🌎

We’ve proudly served organic, fair-trade certified coffee for decades. Another neat fact many don’t know is that our coffee is also CARBON NEGATIVE!

What does this mean?!! It means that for every pound of coffee sold the roastery offsets 4 lbs of CO2. This helps to fund reforestation, habitat protection and remove carbon from the atmosphere in countries like Ecuador 🌱

Just like our roaster, we believe that environmental justice and social justice go hand in hand. This woman owned coffee shop (that’s us) adores that our roaster is dedicated to sourcing organic beans from Women Coffee Producers around the world.

Let us introduce you to another drink from our spring menu - the Dirty Earl. This café latte is made with our house-made Earl grey syrup. Delicious notes of Bergamot taste divine combined with espresso and milk (available hot or iced).

So how does this one tie into our feelings?!? 😬The word EARL originally denoted a man of noble rank. While we may have no kings in this country, it still seems like quite a few high ranking people are very dirty. We could be referring to the Epstein files, or the fact that our administration seems to be selling off bits and pieces of land to the highest bidder regardless of the consequences.

The U.S. Senate has voted (50-49) to overturn a 20-year ban on mining on about 350 square miles of federal land near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Mining that land is likely to turn our “land of 10,000 lakes” into “land of 10,000 pools of death.”

Let’s keep the loons in Minnesota and get the loons out of office!

✨ Meet our artist of the month ✨

We’ve had the honor of watching Camille grow as an artist over the years. We first met her when she was an 18 year old wanting to make some extra money as a barista while teaching dancing classes at a local studio. Soon she expressed her love of ALL things artsy - it’s woven into her soul. Shortly after she held her first art show here at Atomic featuring some fun paintings. Take a look at the last slide for a piece from that show and another when she was known as buttershins 👀

Writing this post makes us teary eyed. 🥹 To know Camille is such a privilege. Her art hangs up in our own home, as well as many friend’s homes who also met her through her time at Atomic. Her art adorns our body and many others who have, or currently do, work here. We feel so blessed that now her art also brightens up our window, and our hearts, when we walk by the beautiful painting she created for us ⚛️

We held a private reception for her earlier this month where she mentioned feeling very thankful for all the connections Atomic has given her. We feel equally, if not more, blessed to have her in our lives and to be witness to her beautiful soul. We encourage you to reach out to her with inquiries on tattoos (perhaps a tribal piece featured), window paintings or purchasing one of her pieces up on our walls. ✨

When we created our spring menu we wanted to give you an energy drink, since that’s what the “kids” are into these days, but we had to put it on theme: our feelings. At that point we felt IMPEACHMENT ENERGY in the air. It’s “funny” how much can happen in five days time. We watched our current president threaten GENOCIDE on an entire nation. His words and actions continue to be completely unhinged. How is this “man” in charge of our country?!? 🤯🤬😫

Our Lotus energy drink featuring elderflower, white peach and ginger syrups will now be served with a spring, I mean sprig, of thyme. This spring we are no longer just feeling impeachment energy in the air - it’s IMPEACHMENT THYME!

We not only hope the winter changes to spring, we hope for lasting change and less corruption throughout our nation. Our politicians should not be able to be bought by Israel, or make decisions that lead to building their bank accounts, while the rest of the world hangs in the balance. We are not only grieving the lives lost in Lebanon and Palestine in the past days, but those lost in our own nation. Women who aren’t allowed to make decisions regarding their bodies. The unhoused and unfed. Those discarded by ICE and left to die.

This isn’t about republicans and democrats. This isn’t a battle of left and right. This is a call to action for the sake of all humanity. We need change now. If you haven’t visited https://5calls.org it is an easy way to get in touch with your local representatives and request change. I can’t promise it will do anything, but not speaking up and making our voices heard also won’t create change. To end this on a lighter note please call Mother Nature too. Let her know we are ready for it to feel like spring - that would be just peachy. ☀️

Happy April?!? 🙃

We have decided to be closed today due to the weather. To be more transparent, our car almost got stuck MULTIPLE times on our less than mile drive into the store this morning and started sliding backwards at an underpass. We want to keep you, and our staff, safe and cozy this holiday weekend. We apologize in advance if that ruins any of your weekend plans.

We will be closed tomorrow for Easter and opening at 8am Eastern Monday. See you then!

As promised, our full spring menu has arrived just as tulips are awaking from their slumber! We’ll continue featuring drinks throughout the upcoming weeks. Today, however, is Fargo’s “No kings” rally. We’d rather spend our time promoting that. We encourage you to show up and make your voice heard. If you do stop by the store today while out enjoying the sunshine and rally show us your protest sign, or a picture of you with one, and receive a dollar off a beverage of your choice.

Snow on March 27th? Spring in Fargo is always a little erratic, much like our current president’s behaviors. His operation in Iran violates our constitution and our nation’s founding principles. And if we are being transparent, we are more than a little salty we aren’t Canadian right now. If it’s going to be cold and snowing we might as well live in a nation that provides health care to its citizens with their tax dollars instead of funding bombs that are killing children. If we were Canadian, we would be a little salty that the American people have let their government reach the point it has. And we’d hope they would be inspired to work together to create lasting change.

Inspired by the aforementioned, meet another drink on our spring Menu. The Salty Canadian: milk, espresso, maple syrup and sea salt. We hope our friends up north would approve.
