We hosted the most amazing group of culinary arts students from Lapeer County Education and Technology Center at our high school open house yesterday. The students were very professional, engaging, and arrived ready to work in their chef uniforms. By far, they were the standout group, and we really enjoyed working with them!

Our interactive open houses allow students to work in the labs side-by-side with our chefs for an opportunity to experience “a day in the life of an MCC culinary student.”

The future looks delicious and we can’t wait to see these familiar faces back in our kitchens after graduation!

Wanna see our labs for yourself? Click the link in our bio to schedule a tour.

Last night’s Applewood Valentine’s Dinner was officially a “sold-out, hearts-full, stomachs-fuller” success. It was a celebration of love in all its forms — couples, galentines, and family members connecting over dinner with a purpose. The beautiful voice of Jasmin Turman, MCC Music Major, filled the room and warmed hearts.

A huge thank you to our chefs and students who worked hard and brought the vision to life. We are so appreciative of every guest who packed out both seatings and supported our students. We’re so sorry we couldn’t accommodate every reservation request, but stay tuned for the next dinner at Applewood at Second & Saginaw.

The countdown to Italy has begun,
12 days until departure….

Meet Chef James Hemings — the father of American cuisine.

From French Fries to Crème Brûlée, Hemings’ DNA is in every kitchen across the country.

Born in 1765 in colonial Virginia, James Hemings was brought to Monticello as a nine-year-old boy, enslaved to Thomas Jefferson. At 19, Hemings traveled to France with Jefferson to be trained in the art of French cooking.  While in Paris, he studied with the caterer and restaurateur, Monsieur Combeaux, and apprenticed with pastry chefs and a cook in the household of the Prince de Condé. Chef Heming is responsible for bringing the staples we know and love today to America — french fries, ice cream, and macaroni pie, now known as Macaroni & cheese.

To learn more about Chef Hemings and his contributions to American cuisine, don’t miss the documentary screening of “James Hemings: Ghost in America’s Kitchen,” part of 11th Annual African American Film Series.

It’s been cold outside, but Chef Antwain Trimble brought the heat in the kitchen! 🔥

FACT - Families and Children Together held their Family Kitchen event with us at the MCC Culinary Arts Institute, sponsored by Molina Healthcare of Michigan. Local families learned to prepare a healthy chicken fajita dinner step-by-step and received groceries to make it at home. Great Start to Quality Resource Center, Eastern Region was on hand, providing information on childcare and preschool programs. We love helping families make meals easier, healthier, and more affordable.
