We just completed our second year picking up food scraps from OuterSpace.
We want to share our deepest gratitude to Barbara Gillespie and her whole team for their willingness to divert food waste and support our small little garden with nutrient-rich compost.
We know there are other folks out there who are interested in a small scale compost production, so I would like to offer this opportunity for collaboration amongst our community and happy to provide all the details in how to get a process like this going.
Where we lived previously, we have set up a food scrap drop-off site where our neighbors could come and contribute their food waste into our bin. With others, we drop off empty 5-gallon buckets at the beginning of the week then pick them up full at the end. Once a good schedule is set, communication is really minimal.
Food waste doesn’t belong in a landfill ~ it belongs in the garden converted in compost where all things thrive! We feel so lucky to have an amazing local restaurant that is open to it, and we look forward to next year’s collection.
www.makesoil.org is a wonderful site where one can set up a location as a food scrap drop off site for those searching for a location.
Recycle your food scraps to regenerate the Earth!
