Stopped in at Rollin Smoke BBQ last weekend during a visit to Austin. These guys are putting out some top notch bbq. The brisket was solid. Good smoke. Nice bark.
The turkey was moist and the pork belly burnt ends are a MUST! I also tried their smoked guisada taco. Very good. Sides were decent. Mac and cheese could have been cheesier. Potato salad was great. Stop in if you are visiting.

Stopped in today at North Texas Smoke BBQ. A short drive to Decatur was well worth the meal we had today. Meat selection was limited to the holy trinity today but that was fine. I took my food to-go today and we were treated to some really tasty brisket, ribs and sausages. The brisket was moist and tender with a great salty bark the way I like it. Ribs were done perfectly and were seasoned just right. Tried both sausages, beef and jalapeño cheddar, and they did not disappoint. If you up around this area and looking for a great lunch spot give them a try. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the BBQ was great . Give them a call if you have catering needs as well. We'll be back for sure.

Spent the weekend in Austin this weekend and tried a place I've been wanting for a minute now. Micklethwait did not disappoint. BBQ was sold out of a food truck and seating was outside. Cool mist fans made the heat bearable and BYOB meant we could bring our favorite cold beers. The food was great. Brisket was moist and had a good salty bark. Pulled pork was tasty and the smoked lamb was different but good. The hot link sausage was a bit softer than I prefer but still had great flavor. This was a great place to grub on some great Texas bbq. I recommend Micklethwait Craft Meats of you are in the area and looking for some tasty meats.

Hangin' in Austin for a weekend we decided to try a new local fav. LeRoy and Lewis is another in a long list of Austin BBQ spots. These guys are different than the "traditional" central Texas bbq spots. No brisket that day but I did opt for the burger that had brisket in the patty. It was really good. We sampled most of the other meats including the beef cheek, barbacoa, pulled pork and sausage. All were good. The burnt ends were OK. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. Not my fav style as I am a purest at heart and I really seek out the traditional style cooks. But hats off to LeRoy and Lewis for bringing a new twist to tradition. It's worth a try.

Passing through El Paso, we had a chance to try Desert Oak Barbecue. These guys are new on the Texas Monthly bbq list and they did not disappoint. All the meats were good and the place was neat and staff was friendly. I didn't get a pic but the smokers were around back. Stop in if you get a chance.

Stopped in Mathis, TX on my way to Corpus Christi. Decided to give it a try. There was still plenty of food after lunch time and I was hungry. The place was neat and clean with plenty of sitting area. Dress cool as there is no AC but that's fine when good BBQ is being served. The staff was nice and I enjoyed the meal. Everything was good and I recommend a stop of you make it down there. Glad I stopped.

Hit up Hutchin's BBQ out in McKinney, TX. We heard a lot of good things about this and they lived up to my expectations hands down. Initially I thought it would take long to get a seat with the line out the door. But the line moves very fast and all the meats were still available even thought we arrived at dinner time. The seating area is huge and there's always somewhere to sit. Since it our first time we stuck to the TX holy trinity. The brisket was moist and very tasty. Good salty bark. Sausage was on point and the ribs were done perfectly. We added on a half chicken for s@I and giggles and it did not disappoint. We also opted for a Texas Tw***ie (large jalapenño stuffed with brisket and cream cheese and wrapped in bacon) and it was heavenly. The mashed potatoes were an unusual side but we tried them anyway. Along with the mac & cheese and beans the sides were very good. Finally, the complementary cobbler and banana pudding for folks dining was the icing on the cake. We loved this place and we'd come back any day for another serving of this awesome Texas BBQ. Thank you Hutchin's BBQ for the great meal.

Passing through Waco, TX, we decided to try Guess Family Barbecue. Great location with plenty of parking. The sitting area and bar were very clean and comfortable. We decided to tackle The Holy Feast which gave us a sampling of every meat and every side available. We received generous servings of spare ribs, baby back ribs, pulled pork, sausages, turkey and brisket. They were all well cooked and moist but the brisket was the stand out. Very moist accompanied with a salty/peppery bark. Excellent!! The sides were solid and diverse including mac & cheese, potato salad, grits, baked beans, broccoli salad and coleslaw. The bar was well stocked with a great selection of beers and liquor. I highly recommend a stop at this Waco gem if you find yourself in the area. We will be back.

Stopped in at The Patriotic Pig today. North Richland Hills, TX. I was not disappointed. The location was very nice with comfortable seating. Everything was very clean and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Kimberly opted for the beef fajita tacos with sides of elote corn and mac & cheese. Both were very tasty! I went with the 3 meat plate choosing moist brisket, jalapeño and pepper jack sausage and deviled egg potato salad. Everything was excellent. Good salty bark on brisket and turkey was juicy. The house bbq sauce was good and they offer a spicy option as well. There’s a good offering of beer on tap and bottles for beer lovers. Overall we had a great experience. We will be back here again for sure.

Spent the weekend in San Antonio, TX this past weekend and came across Augie's BBQ. It was hot outside and a cold beer is exactly what we needed. The place is really cool and I loved the way it was decorated. The staff was nice and the place was clean. I had a three meat plate with pulled pork, sausage and chicken. Kim had a sandwich with smoked pork belly. Sides were baked beans, potato salad, mac & cheese and charro beans. As a bonus, we sat and ate in the attached bar called Brazed Bourbon and Beer. They had some Blanton's available for a decently priced pour. Had to have it. It was good!! Check these places out if your close to downtown San Antonio and love BBQ.
