Beyond their intrinsic historic and architectural value, are the spaces that afford us experiences and memories that make lasting connections to the places we call home. This is certainly true of the local historic landmark Cliffside Diner. Opened in 1948, the building has served continuously as a dining establishment since that time, with a few pauses here and there, serving up cheeseburgers, mil

k shakes, and open-face roast beef sandwiches. The first proprietor Jim Miller opened the then “Jim Miller’s Diner” on Old Lawrenceburg Road just below the Governor’s Mansion terrace, in a time when diners served a large sector of the population before the advent of now common fast food chains. The post-war car-centered generation took to the roads to like never before and diners like Cliffside served up dishes that were ready made and affordable all over the country. Now only a few of these hangouts serve our community, and Cliffside continues a tradition of great food with local flavor, in a unique location which holds a special place in hearts of many a Frankfort native .
