DMV native Mark Tennant of Front Royal is making headlines after becoming the first Virginian to win a World Axe Throwing League (WATL) championship.

Just four years after he took up axe throwing, Mark Tennant was named Hatchet World Champion at the 9th annual World Axe Throwing Championship. Tennant, 52, of Front Royal, earned the title April 19 at a competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The World Axe and Knife Throwing Championship (WAKTC IX) is currently happening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, running from April 16–19, 2026. Today, Saturday, April 18, features the Pro Hatchet brackets, with the finals scheduled for tomorrow.
​While the event is live, it is typically broadcast via ESPN8: The Ocho or streamed on the WATL YouTube and pages. Check your local ESPN listings or the World Axe Throwing League social channels for the exact air times.

​We are now specializing in Mobile Axe Throwing & Professional Catering—the perfect addition to birthdays, weddings, corporate team-building, or any milestone celebration.
​The Experience
​We handle everything so you can enjoy your event. Our mobile setup requires a 24' x 24' area, and our team manages the rest.
​What’s Included: Delivery, setup, professional coaching, safety instructions, equipment, and breakdown.
​Pricing: $500.00 for a 3-hour session ($150.00 per additional hour).
