BIG LIFE UPDATE!
Some of you already know, but we wanted to share this bittersweet news more formally: our family is moving out West. We recently purchased a home in Logan, Utah, and we’ll be relocating the first week of January.
How it all began…
This past summer marked seven years of Cultivate, and we were (and are!) blessed with an incredible team — including strong management who keeps the day-to-day running smoothly.
Around that time, we started asking the big questions:
Should we open more locations in RDU?
Should we try something new, different?
Or do we keep things exactly as they are — because life in Fuquay is great, and nothing is “wrong”?
But deep down, we sensed a stirring. A feeling that change was coming.
As we thought and prayed about it, doors began opening. Through conversations with our church, we learned there was a desire to plant more churches in the West — especially in Utah — so we took a few exploratory trips to Salt Lake City and the surrounding area.
When we drove into Logan, something clicked. It felt like home instantly.
Logan has a similar small-town feel to Fuquay, but also with a vibrant university (Utah State — 20,000 students… go AGGIES!) and there’s room right now for more coffee shops and community spaces like Cultivate. It’s a beautiful city in an incredibly beautiful state!!
Coffee culture in Utah is just starting to explode — and we’re excited to bring great coffee! Through a pretty amazing series of events, we also have a strong lead on a future Cultivate Coffee #2 location right in the heart of Logan and we’re excited to join a four-year-old church plant in Logan called Gospel Peace. We have two boys, 8 and 10, who are chomping at the bit to get released in the wild, and getting our kids out into wide open spaces was also a big factor.
And we won’t be alone — several families from our church are also moving to Utah over the next year. It’s been encouraging to see this community forming.

So what does this mean for Cultivate in Fuquay?
Cultivate will carry on as normal, and we will continue to own it and run it remotely from Utah.
The shop is staying open, the doors aren’t closing, and our incredible team will continue running (and improving!) everything.
• Grace is doing an amazing job as General Manager.
• Tristan is roasting fantastic coffee every day.
• Our shift leaders and staff are steady, capable, and thriving.
We’re really going to miss you — our customers, our staff, and this amazing community. None of this would be happening, none of it possible, without your continued support for the last 7 years. We will carry that with us, in gratitude, forever, wherever we go, whatever we do!

This past year has been wild in the best way. The path has been clear, provision ample to overrun the obstacles and challenges, and we are truly humbled by the opportunity ahead.
If you’d like to follow along with our family’s journey, we’ll be updating our blog / mailing list at:

We’ll also be back in North Carolina at least quarterly to visit, see the team, and check in on things.
And if you find yourself in Salt Lake City — especially Logan — please reach out. We’d love to connect, grab coffee, or host anyone visiting or interested in relocating.

These next 4 weeks are going to be full of emotions, but we hope we get to see you at least one more time. If you’d like to say goodbye, we will be at the shop 9am- 12pm on December 18th to work our last shift together!
Thank you dear friends, we love you!
