Ya'll, the inaugural "Eat Like It Matters" Event is upon us 😎🖤

You know, I must be honest and say that I was very very very hesitant about heading to East Gainesville. I lived out east a huge majority of my life and I don't think I have ever seen anything healthy there.

We've had so many businesses come and go...so many promises of changes that never came through, and I'm just talking about my childhood days right now 😖

The fact that Walmart and Dollar General are the only stores in that corridor was even more concerning to me because their business model is designed to uproot and push out small local businesses. All of this, plus our current economy, gave me pause!!

But I took a little time(and a lot of courage) to self-reflect to see what was really driving my decision to not pursue this opportunity. And ya'll, I realize something that was so important and it changed my whole mindset; and made this venture personal for me.

I found out that just like sooo many others in East Gainesville, I had lost all hope 😔. All of the professional reasons I found(and it was a lot) to justify my decision were really excuses that I used to comfort my lack of hope.

20 plus years of me seeing East Gainesville dormant, put my business mind in a state of hopeless for that area and I had to hold myself accountable for you losing the enjoyment of things to come. And you know, the life lesson that I got from this is that you should NEVER allow anyone or anything to lull your dreams and hopes to sleep 🖤

So, these "Eat Like It Matters" dinners aren't just about nutritional awareness within our community....it's also about keeping our commitment to each other as neighbors, establishing trust, showing faith and restoring OUR HOPE 🥹🫂

Ya'll, after a crazy busy year, the Young Chef's Program is a wrap❗️❗️

The pop up dinner with Working Food Greater Duval Neighborhood Association was just incredible 🙌🏾. You know, having the experience of working with so many amazing kids during the year provides so much needed inspiration to all that we do 🥹🥹

To think that this program started 6 years ago during the pandemic(online cooking 😅....buy me a glass of wine and I'll tell you some stories 😂) and grew to such an impactful community program where all of the youth are thriving just melts my heart 🫠❤️

With Young Chef's wrapped up into August, we'll jump into Summer Sling with Duval Neighborhood Association for some cooking in Duval 👨🏾‍🍳 😎

I want to give a special thank you to Children's Trust of Alachua County for ALWAYS having our back 😊🤞🏾 Marsha and her team has supported our community efforts and made sure that despite increasing food cost(as we all are experiencing now), our youth were able to have a program that specifically focused on their nutritional needs and culinary development 🥹🙏🏾 Love ya'll and I can't thank you enough 🖤

Anywho, I miss you all and I can't wait to see you all when we reopen. ⚠️ And don't forget to save the date for the Eat Like It Matters Dinner!! - July 18th ⚠️

Ya'll, 2026 came in like a bat out of hell for me 😂😂. I completely forgot to let you all know about one of the many projects we'll be starting!!

Last December, we had the incredible pleasure of partnering with the Gainesville Housing Authority on the Unity Long Table Dinner at the Gainesville Housing Authority ELITE Training Center . The event was a blast and so many amazing relationships were established that day 🫂

We can't thank you all enough for coming out, enjoying dinner, and standing in oneness as we all collectively focus on the growth of East Gainesville 🥹🥹

At the event, I announced that we would be opening our first community kitchen in East Gainesville!! This provision kitchen would be geared towards fostering a safe & educational space for youth entrepreneurship, while also providing a space for existing culinary entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and be successful!!

With so much going on in our economy, as we saw last year with SNAP benefits being cut; I thought it was very important to ensure that this kitchen also had the means to store, manufacture and distribute food in a time of need the time of need to our community.

My goal here is a state of food preparedness for our community partners and members, while also battling food insecurities on our East side through exposure to non-ultra processed/locally grow ingredients and nutritional awareness events!! Mrs. Pam and her team(🤗) shared the same interests and thus Grassroots was founded 🍃😊🍃

Grassroots will serve several purposes but the primary focus will be community relief. We look to expose more of our community members to healthier recipes/ingredients with FREE community engagements each quarter ❗️❗️

It will also provide access to specialty crops & branded products produced and sold by our local kiddos during the summer & after school 😎. I'm so excited to get this kitchen open and making an impact within our community 🥹

The first event is on my calendar, so save the date to yours 😌🙏🏾 I hope to see you all there 😊❤️
