Ya'll, the inaugural "Eat Like It Matters" Event is upon us ππ€
You know, I must be honest and say that I was very very very hesitant about heading to East Gainesville. I lived out east a huge majority of my life and I don't think I have ever seen anything healthy there.
We've had so many businesses come and go...so many promises of changes that never came through, and I'm just talking about my childhood days right now π
The fact that Walmart and Dollar General are the only stores in that corridor was even more concerning to me because their business model is designed to uproot and push out small local businesses. All of this, plus our current economy, gave me pause!!
But I took a little time(and a lot of courage) to self-reflect to see what was really driving my decision to not pursue this opportunity. And ya'll, I realize something that was so important and it changed my whole mindset; and made this venture personal for me.
I found out that just like sooo many others in East Gainesville, I had lost all hope π. All of the professional reasons I found(and it was a lot) to justify my decision were really excuses that I used to comfort my lack of hope.
20 plus years of me seeing East Gainesville dormant, put my business mind in a state of hopeless for that area and I had to hold myself accountable for you losing the enjoyment of things to come. And you know, the life lesson that I got from this is that you should NEVER allow anyone or anything to lull your dreams and hopes to sleep π€
So, these "Eat Like It Matters" dinners aren't just about nutritional awareness within our community....it's also about keeping our commitment to each other as neighbors, establishing trust, showing faith and restoring OUR HOPE π₯Ήπ«
I hope to see you all at the event this Saturday βοΈβοΈ
