When you talk to Ohio State Highway Patrol Tailor Mirjana A. Risteska about her job, her enthusiasm shines through. “I love my job,” she said emphatically. “I am so happy to be here.”
For the last seven years, she has been helping troopers look professional. She does not just help troopers though, it’s all Patrol employees who wear a uniform. When Patrol staff is promoted, she helps them with their new uniforms. But her favorite is when a new cadet class begins, she and her coworker dress them from head to toe. They take their measurements and by the time the cadets are ready to graduate, their uniforms are perfectly tailored for their graduation day.
Her passion for sewing began in 1993, when she visited her sister-in-law, also a tailor, at the former City Center Lazarus in Columbus. During that visit, she was offered a job. After several years, the store went through changes and she got a job as a tailor at another retailer in town. While working there, her coworker was contacted to see if she wanted to work for the Patrol as a tailor, but Risteska ended up taking the job instead. Mirjana said she wishes that she came across the job sooner in her life. She likes knowing that there is stability in her job and says she is blessed to have this wonderful job.
“I enjoy my job,” she said. “I love to sew and I want everyone to look perfect.”
