The Ga***rd area's largest fireworks display returns to Otsego Lake at dusk (plan to arrive by 9:30 p.m.). Watch from Otsego Lake County Park or enjoy the show from your boat on the water.

🚤 Saturday, July 4 | Otsego Lake Boat Parade
Celebrate Independence Day with the annual boat parade from 3:00–4:00 p.m. along Otsego Lake. It's a fun local tradition that's perfect for the whole family.

🎇 Saturday, July 4 | Johannesburg Celebration
Just a short drive east of Ga***rd, Johannesburg celebrates with a community parade, food vendors, family activities, and a fireworks display at dusk.

Throwback Thursday ⏳

Ever wonder why Ga***rd has its iconic Alpine look?Believe it or not, Ga***rd wasn’t always Michigan’s Alpine Village.

Originally a farming and lumber town in the late 1800s, Ga***rd was looking for a way to stand out by the 1950s and 60s. Community leaders saw opportunity in Northern Michigan tourism and winter recreation and wanted something memorable that fit our snowy location.

The inspiration came from what is now Otsego Resort. Back in 1939, the original ski club was built with a beautiful Alpine design inspired by mountain villages in Switzerland and Austria. Years later, local leaders brought that same vision downtown, creating the charming Alpine style we know and love today. Chalet-style buildings, flower boxes, and Alpine architecture became part of Ga***rd’s identity.

Today, that vision lives on throughout downtown Ga***rd and helps make this place feel a little different… a little special.
