Gaskins GASKINS is Permanently Closed Gaskins is a gathering place for the community and an extension of our home. There is limited street parking in Germantown.

The food we serve uses exceptional ingredients from nearby farms, but just as importantly, is nourishing and satisfying. We look forward to inviting our neighbors over for dinner for many years to come. Please use the municipal parking lot on Main st or the parking lot directly behind Gaskins. There is also additional parking everyday except Sunday at the loop in front of the Reformed Church of Germantown, 20 Church Ave.

It’s officially my last post before handing this account off to NINES!

You’ve been here with us, watching as we built Gaskins, built our family and built community. I’ve overshared, screamed into the void, announced my pregnancy, posted countless family meal shots, raised money for things I feel are meaningful and important, spread the word about new small businesses, shared too many vacation selfies, grieved over Bonnie together and felt buoyed by words of support in weird times.

People keep asking ‘what’s next’ for us. And the real answer is we’re not sure. We’re enjoying this in-between time. Nick and I have no plans for a new food business - we’re excited to explore other passions and skills. I’ve only really worked in hospitality, every job I’ve had since I was 16 was inside a restaurant. For now, I’m continuing serving as a board member on the Germantown Town Board, hanging as much as I can with Milo, and I’ve started consulting for small businesses in our community. Nick is working for - geeking out on all things fungi and talking with chefs around the Hudson Valley. We are both getting ourselves to the ocean as much as possible, spending more time with our extended families and taking long walks with our pup Piña.

In 2026, I’m doing my best to stay present, dream of new worlds, and go slowly. See you around Germantown. Or at the beach! 💙

Hi! Can I tell you a little bit about Avery & Ryan? They have hospitality backgrounds in Philadelphia, NYC and the Hudson Valley. Between them they’ve worked decades in different restaurants from cafes to fine dining. But more important than their restaurant pedigree (to us) is that they are committed to creating a great place to work. We really believe that’s what matters most - if the people working & inhabiting a restaurant are cared for it permeates everything else - the food, the service, the whole ecosystem.

Nick and I have known Ryan for over 11 years, and we’ve gotten to know Avery over the last year through this crazy process of changing hands. We have no doubt they are going to create something special with Nines. Ryan’s cooking is just the way we like it - simple but highly executed, comforting, consistent and delicious. Avery has an eye for details and knows how to create a warm & inviting atmosphere. We’ve managed to always laugh together through the ups and downs of this stressful year. I’ve found parallels in our partnerships- Ryan and I are both enthusiastic, eager, a bit fiery. Nick and Avery keep calm, steady, measured. Avery and I both can’t speak to anyone in the morning before coffee. Ryan & Nick both have a reverence for salt, lemon & olive oil. And all four of us have lost our patience with the tediousness of bureaucracy at different times!

In the New Year, Nines will be taking over this Instagram account and you’ll get to see their story unfold. You’ll meet them around town, since they live upstairs, you’ll see their touches in how the space transforms.

More than anything, we are so happy to be able to share this community with Avery & Ryan, and continue to get to know them alongside all of you.

We are thrilled to finally introduce you to the NEW OWNERS of 2 Church Avenue, Avery Jannelli & Ryan McLaughlin!!!

It’s wild that we first met Ryan back in 2014 as we were building Gaskins. And in 2015 he made sausages for the restaurant at his Red Hook shop Daughters Fare & Ale (since closed). He also was a pinch hitter in those early days, filling in for line cook shifts and saving our butts. So when Ryan reached out in September 2024 and said he and his partner, Avery were interested in the Gaskins building I couldn’t believe our luck! And here we are 1 year later and we are so happy IT’S THEM!!

Ryan & Avery will be opening their own place: Nines, a warm, unfussy restaurant focused on quality food and drink, excellent service, comfort, and ease. Over the next two months they will do a renovation to give the space a refresh and a feeling of its own. But the most special part of this transition is they want to recognize, honor & expand on the legacy we built with Gaskins.

In the coming days and weeks you’ll hear more about Nines here and I’ll share what’s next for Nick, Milo & I, but for now I’d like to share with you the beautiful kismet of the name Nines:

Nine is my lucky number. It appears in most of my passwords, it’s a number I’ve clung to with reverence since I was 9 years old. Then Milo was born on April 9th. And after 9.5 years of of operating Gaskins we decided to close. So when Avery shared that the restaurant would be called Nines, my jaw dropped. You see this number was special to her as well! And they liked the idea of referencing routes 9 & 9G, Ryan’s twins were 9 most of this year, in numerology 2025 is 9! It’s such a convenient but also beautiful number. Cloud nine - heaven on earth.

All year, the number has been there, constantly reassuring us we’re doing the right thing. Waiting patiently (and not so patiently) as the loan process dragged on. But feeling confident all along that it would be worth the wait. Because Ryan & Avery would be true stewards of this space. And here we are today passing the torch to two people we couldn’t have dreamed would be more perfect. We can’t wait to have a drink with YOU at Nines!

My heart exploded and my eyes filled with tears when I walked into Two Church Ave today! A group of truly lovely humans put together this Holiday Toy Exchange as part of the Winter Glow and it feels like the perfect gift (to ME & Germantown) to see our dining room transformed into a toy shop. It will also be the last special event in the building that formerly housed before the new owners take over next week (more on that sooooon!!!)

So please do swing by tomorrow, 12/13 10am-5pm and shop! Entry is just a suggested $5 donation and once you’re inside everything is free ♥️

All funds raised will be donated to - a very essential organization that keeps people in Columbia county fed and nourished year round!

Hi friends. I voted today. And it got me thinking that it might be time to share an update here in Germantown, NY, like I’ve often done on election days past.

In a stroke of beautiful luck, we found two wonderful people to pass the baton to at our special corner of Church and Main St. I’ve wanted to tell you all about them, the restaurant they are going to open and why we adore them.

But instead, I have to tell you that we haven’t been able to sell them the building, YET. Last month, we were so very close to closing a deal that has taken longer than we ever imagined it would. But it didn’t matter, because we had faith that the process might be long, but we’ve been doing it right, and with the right people.

The new owners are buying the building with a Small Business Administration loan. But our Federal government is currently closed. So we went from ‘any day now we can announce the great news!’ to 35 days and counting of purgatory.

This shutdown is disrupting the lives of so many people and the effects are devastating. What we are experiencing is just a tiny window into the chaos, uncertainty, pain and havoc it’s wreaking all across our country.

If you’ve been following along here a while, you know I got involved in local politics after Trump was elected in 2016. And I immediately started looking into how to offer better healthcare options for our staff because I feared he’d dismantle the system so many relied on.

Becoming civically engaged is one of the best things I’ve ever done. Being an elected official is not something I ever imagined for myself, and I don’t take it lightly. These times have been truly maddening, but my connection to my community has kept me afloat.

So I’m here to say:

We need our elected officials to come to their senses and TAKE CARE OF THE PEOPLE.

Also there is a new restaurant coming soon. I can’t wait to tell you about it.

Fighting psychic numbness with community is the only thing getting me through these wild days. Excited to play & shop & connect at the Curated Tag Sale hosted by Taylor & Zivar on Saturday 9/13, 10am-1pm.

I picked some goodies for you from my closet and there many treasures, size and gender inclusive, special vintage pieces, small designers, all proceeds benefiting and their important work. Scoop up a sweater, dress, gem, or a look for fall. Hope to see you there!

Have some special pieces you want to share? Swing by the brewery today, Friday, 12-4 and drop them off.

The one thing I’ve consistently reached for all year long in moments when I needed calm, clarity or connection is SAUNA. And now our beloved will be making Germantown their home for fall, winter & spring.

Some of my favorite moments in Germantown this last year happened at - my birthday, a special Park Commission meeting, a solstice sunrise sauna, and many more times of peace or friendship. Thank you Kelly for creating a third place where we can sweat, cry, sing, and feel grounded during an impossibly unsettling time in history. Hope to see you at the sauna this season 🔥

Hi from the void!

Here to remind you that with our colleagues we are helping Feed the Belly raise $2,500 to provide laptops for 10 incredible students from Hudson, NY who are headed off to college. These young scholars were born and raised in our community — now let’s give them the tools to thrive.

Shared Plate has been working with Annette and her Feed the Belly program for over 4 years and we continue to be in awe of the way she shows up in her community.

Feed the Belly is a grassroots, community-driven organization dedicated to supporting low-income families and children. They offer free food & meals, hygiene supplies and gift cards. Feed the Belly helps families celebrate birthdays, holidays, and memorial services, organizes field trips and provides stress relief support. Annette has expanded her mission to help Hudson college bound students.

Whether it’s $5 or $50, your support helps close the digital divide and sets them up for success.

Please donate, share, and help spread the word. Link in bio & stories.
