FAQ: Why is our original University location the only Backyard Taco without a drive-thru?

Simple answer: there just isn’t enough room for one at that location.

University is where Backyard Taco started, and the site wasn’t built with drive-thru space in mind. As we opened newer locations, drive-thru convenience became part of the plan.

So while University may be the OG without a drive-thru, you can still order ahead for pickup and get the same fresh, mesquite-grilled Mexcellence. 🌮🔥

In 2005, Ruben and Marisela began sharing their love of authentic Mexican food with family and friends. Word quickly spread, and soon people were following them to backyards across the Valley for a taste of their mesquite-grilled Tacos al Carbon.

Eventually, one backyard simply wasn’t big enough.

That love of familia, Mexican food, tradition, and flavor became the foundation of Backyard Taco and the beginning of what would become .
