Tod Mun Goong evolved from the traditional Thai fish cake, Tod Mun Pla, a classic street and coastal dish enjoyed for generations. While fish cakes have long been a staple in Thai cuisine, the shrimp variation emerged later as a more refined interpretation, highlighting the natural sweetness and firm texture of fresh shrimp.
With the influence of modern Thai dining, chefs began coating the shrimp mixture in breadcrumbs for an added crispy exterior, creating the golden, crunchy texture popular today. Now widely served in restaurants and coastal eateries, Tod Mun Goong represents a contemporary take on a beloved Thai classic.
