Runaway Cafe

Runaway Cafe The Runaway Café serves freshly prepared food from locally sourced and organic ingredients and is a member of The Vermont Fresh Network.

Inspired by their travels Chris and Lori’s preparations bring simple, wholesome recipes and flavors from around the world to Glover, VT. We are vegetarian, vegan and omnivore friendly :-) There’s always a great cup of coffee made with Vermont Artisan Coffee’s roasted to order organic and fairly traded beans. The best that the Northeast Kingdom has to offer. The Runaway Café is open daily for fresh

baked goods, breakfast items, like our now famous Breakfast Quesadilla, light lunches and a seasonal evening tastings menu. Special events like poetry, art shows and music are often in the mix along with an eclectic variety of wine, and beer. Kingdom Yoga has a dedicated yoga studio on property offering private and group classes for all levels. The adjoining Group Shop features displays by local artisans and dealers selling arts, crafts, antiques and collectibles. Ideally situated just south of I-91 Barton Exit 25 at the Junction of Vermont Route 16 and Vermont Route 122 the site is available for seasonal craft and farmer’s markets as well as other special functions.

Still on sabbatical as Chris and Lori still attempting to get the new house completed. It's been a real roller coaster ride but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to our customers for your continued patience.

Next door The Kingdom Yoga Studio is going strong with Thursday night (6-7:30) and Saturday morning classes (9-10:30). Who let the Downward Dog out? Who!? Who who who who...!

Keeping up with the R&D in the kitchen whilst on season break. In between all the skate skiing and snow shoeing that is. Feels like winter in Vermont for a change.

Should have put this up sooner I suppose but the cafe will be closed for the winter season. See you next spring.

Have added some new and interesting stuff to this season's menu.

We have a new panini sandwich grill so now making fun stuff for you all with that.:

1.) Cubanos - w/coffee rubbed pork tenderloin, ham (from VT Smokehouse), Bubbies pickles and swiss cheese on a Klinger's sub roll. We'll dress it with peach habanero sauce or old fashioned French's mustard, press it on the grill and serve you up with some black beans, and a salad. Why do you think Castro retired? He heard the news and decided it wasn't worth going on... See? Runaway Cafe bringing Cuba one step closer to Democracy. Goes great with a glass of Malbec or Rock Art Black Moon IPA

2.) How about the "East Meets East" ? - Smoked chicken breast (we're looking to source some duck too), Kim Chi, cheddar, local fresh mustard greens and our spin on Russian dressing made with Sriracha chili/garlic sauce and mayo. All on rye and pressed to perfection. It's The Asian Reuben if you'd prefer. Whatever you call it the news of it's tastiness caused Kim Jong Un to flinch as he was triggering the rocket launch during grandfather Kim Jong sung 100th anniversary celebrations. Well you all know what happened... He appled for a visa to Glover in Orleans County and the State Dept. rejected it. Hillary please... I know hubby is off the Big Macs but maybe we can get somewhere with North Korea and avoid the sanctions and we pushed back their Nuke program without hurting anyone. Nicely washed back with a Duvel or Palos Verdejo

3.) A veggie sandwich that'll feature roasted grilled veggies of whatever sort are fresh that day (eggplant, roasted red pepper, grilled mushrooms etc.) and fresh local greens like mustards, arugula etc.) Peppered goat cheese and balsamic dressing. We'll paint pepper parmesan bread with garlic olive oil and include a ticket to heaven. Would go nice with a glass of Primitivo or Pinot Grigio. Can we get Sylvio Berlusconi to leave the young ladies alone? Long enough to finish this sandwich I bet and maybe he'll at least become a vegetarian.

Will be using Applecheek products at the cafe as much as we can.

On the 6th of June 1810 an event occurred that was, arguably, the most significant single event in the history of Glover, Vermont, perhaps of all Orleans County. Men and boys set off with shovels to increase the flow of a millstream, but quickly became actors in a much larger drama. June 6, 2010 is
