Today we say goodbye to a true Rufus’ legend, Henry Kitchings.
For more than 50 years, Henry was a familiar face at Rufus’, where he was never at a loss for words, a quick wit, or a spirited debate. If you knew Henry, you knew he loved a good argument—not because he wanted to win, but because he genuinely enjoyed the conversation and the people around him.
After Rufus passed away, Henry and Steve Cunnup took on the important duty of making grocery runs for the restaurant. One story that still brings a smile is the legendary debate over whether Steve’s truck could actually come to a complete stop within 100 yards while traveling 60 mph. Like most conversations involving Henry, there were plenty of opinions, plenty of laughs, and no shortage of determination.
Henry especially enjoyed his mornings with the breakfast crew, gathering around the table to solve the world’s problems one cup of coffee at a time. Those conversations, stories, and laughs became part of the fabric of our community.
Henry wasn’t just a customer—he was family. His presence, humor, and friendship will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Please keep Henry’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We are grateful for the memories, the laughter, and the many years we shared with him.
Rest easy, Henry. The breakfast table won’t be the same without you.
