Let's do another brewery review. Sitting here at Wynkoop Brewing Co. And about to drink many beers.
Rail Yard - American Amber -their flagship beer. Tastes like Alaskan Amber, which is the definitive example of this style. High praise.
Random bronze ape - English barleywine - first impression on this one is the large bronze ape that I fist bumped on my way out to the balcony where we were sitting outside. Deep copper color. Malt sweetness with a warming alcohol in my back of the throat. I wish I hadn't had this one last. It's very good, but also too heavy for a hot summer day on a patio after drinking seven other beers. It's good. Try it. Probably very good for Denver winters.
Kooperstown - Blonde -a blonde that uses flaked oat and still has this brilliant clarity is very impressive. Fairly neutral in it's flavors so not overwhelmed by hops or string malts this is a good refreshing beer.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace - Cream Ale -first of all, I like when breweries have local organizations they partner with to try and build awareness as well as get the average drunk (me) to contribute to those orgs. The beer itself is an excellent example of style. A hit of corn sweetness with a clean finish and not too much bitterness. Good session beer on a hot day.
Banner 18 cashmere IPA - American IPA - well balanced IPA. Not overly bitter and let's the citrus notes come through well. A good IPA, if indistinguishable from most other ipas.
Friend of Dorothy - Japanese Rice Lager - this one caught my eye as something unique and interesting. Not a particularly strong aroma, or at least it got overpowered by the scent of the spinach dip and other aromas of outside downtown Denver. The flavor on this was great though. Subtle and clean. Very low bitterness but still some fruity esters and citrus on the back of the tongue. 10/10 would crush a pint or three of this.
Wixa Weiss - Hefeweizen - bright yellow hazy straw color. Fruity aroma. High banana, low clove, the way I prefer my hefs. This is great. Zero faults.
Mule High Wit - witbier - maybe my taste buds have changed or maybe the general interpretation of the witbier style has changed. Or maybe what I'm with now isn't it and what is it is new and scary to me, but this is another delicious beer, calling itself a wit that tastes like a high clove forward hef. Either way, delicious and will drink more.
