With stomach bugs linked to prewashed salad greens and leaf lettuce once again on the rise, we will be suspending sale of our Caesar salads and will no longer be using arugula or spinach on our sandwiches.
We've had no illnesses linked to the supplier we purchased from, that we're aware of, but we'd rather be safe than sorry. Until we can guarantee the safety of our salad greens, we won't be serving any.
Maybe that means purchasing only from local farmers, and tweaking the menu seasonally. Maybe it means we set up a raised bed for produce out back. Most likely it will be a mix, and bagged produce will (when it can be done with confidence) be worked back into the rotation. But until we've got it figured out, you can still have your Grilled Nook or Figgin' Delicious — just with your pesto melting directly into the fresh mozzarella, or the fig jam into the brie, without a spinach or arugula buffer. (Honestly, I often have it like that sometimes anyway, because cheese.)
We know the experience won't be exactly the same. We tested and balanced all these flavor profiles, and they work. Really well. But your safety is more important to us. We'll be watching the news, exploring alternatives, and keeping you posted on any updates.
(And thankfully, none of this impacts any of our coffee or drinks!)
