Buildings are interesting settings in the landscape of our community. The “1001 Club” is 118 years old this year. It has survived two world wars, prohibition, Vietnam, and 21 U.S. presidents starting with Theodore Roosevelt. It has taken on many forms over the years – Webster Tavern, Breezy’s Bar, Patrick’s Pub, and a variety of clothing stores during prohibition.
I had great hopes for the 1001 Club when we reopened it in 2023. Now just three years later, I have come to the realization that it is not viable in its current form and with its current management. I always tell our managers that business is simply assuring that revenue is $1 more than expenses. We have been unable to achieve that simple assurance, ever, in the past three years. Therefore, effective tonight, we are closing the 1001 Club for the near term. We will maintain the location for catering and special events until it is sold.
We have had several discussions with potential restauranteurs, bar tycoons, and others and there is seemingly significant interest. We will be marketing the restaurant business for outright or seller financed sale. Please message if interested. We are also open to selling the real estate or leasing it, depending on an investor or buyer’s interest.
Nearly all of our employees have found jobs elsewhere or will be provided a position at one of our other establishments – Bistro Buchanan and Daily Buzz – in the Bellin Building. We are grateful for those employees who have worked hard and have put there hearts into the 1001 Club and the family that they developed there while we struggled to maintain a quality culinary team to guide them.
We are pleased with our culinary team at Bistro Buchanan which we hope to expand to provide additional offerings at the Daily Buzz in the near term. Individuals who had Valentine’s Day reservations will be contacted and will be offered to move their reservations to Bistro Buchanan – we look forward to serving you with our dedicated team and exceptional menu there. Any holders of gift certificates for the 1001 Club may have them honored at BISTRO BUCHANAN through June 30, 2026.
