Today, Thursday, June 4, Freedom Cafรฉ will donate all proceeds from the dayโ€™s sales to support the Doncev family following the tragic loss of Dmitri, Ecterina, 13-year old Emily, and 7-year-old Mark.

Mark was one of only eight students in our daughter Faithโ€™s class. Every meal purchased today will help support the family and those affected by this unimaginable loss.

We will also have a donation bucket available for anyone who would like to contribute directly.

Supporting the Doncev Family:

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our daughter Faithโ€™s classmate and friend, Mark Doncev (age 7) who tragically lost his life alongside his parents, Dmitri and Ecterina Doncev, and his sister, Emily (13), in the Virginia bus crash.

Mark was one of only eight students in Faithโ€™s class. In a small classroom, every child is known, valued, and loved. This loss is being felt deeply by his classmates, teachers, and our entire community.

This would have been the two childrenโ€™s last day of school, and they would have been attending the end of year celebration and graduation.

The baconโ€ฆ. The bacon has the perfect crunch โ€ฆ.perfect crunch AND flavor.

The lettuce, fresh and yummy!! the tomato is juicy. Tuna flavorful. Croissant is sweet.๏ฟผ

I donโ€™t think people always realize how much a dishwasher impacts a restaurant until until they see a GREAT one in action.

Not once yesterday, did we run out of anything we needed even when it was slammed.

Diane HUSTLES. Yesterday the busiest day weโ€™ve ever had, and she was holding the entire๏ฟผ operation together!!!

Double washing silverware.
Keeping pots and pans rotating.
Never calling out.
Always positive.
She doesnโ€™t just put dishes in the dishwasher.
Itโ€™s a job of noticing what we are running low on and making sure we never run out.

Restaurants are a team sport.
Every day we are thankful for this amazing team.

Kids have this beautiful way of showing love with genuine affection.

This sweet little girl comes in often, and every time she does, we get to admire her beautiful artwork. But today felt extra special.

She gently placed the cutest little heart into my hand. I have no idea how she made it so Iโ€™m pretty sure itโ€™s an artist secret โ€ฆ.

A few minutes later, I opened another gift. In my hand was the shiniest little penny. It was made in 2025 which is the same year we opened the restaurant. I decided to call it my lucky penny, and now itโ€™s going to stay tucked safely inside my server book.

And as they were getting ready to leave, I was gifted one more treasure: a beautiful drawing of breakfast food.

I canโ€™t even explain how much moments like these mean to us. People thank us all the time for the hard work we do, and although weโ€™ve only been here for six months, it already feels incredibly special to serve this community.

You guys truly have our hearts.

Parents raising kind, thoughtful children like her are doing something right by encouraging genuine kindness with no filter and no expectations.

This community constantly amazes us. You buy meals for strangers, look out for one another, and do sweet things just because you can.

And you have the sweetest kids in the world.

We are absolutely bursting with gratitude. โค๏ธ

Yes we are open today but one table is intentionally left empty.

The chair draped with the American flag represents lives that were interrupted, seats left vacant at dinner tables, birthdays missed, children raised without a parent, spouses left with memories, and families forever changed.

It represents those who answered a call greater than themselves and carried burdens most of us will never fully understand. Some came home carrying invisible scars. Some never came home at all.

Freedom is often spoken about as an idea, but for many families, freedom came with a cost measured in sacrifice, absence, and loss.

This empty place is set to remind us that while we enjoy conversation, meals, laughter, and the simple moments of life, โ€ฆ. there are heroes who gave up every future moment they would have had so that others could have theirs.

Today we remember not only those who served, but those who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families who continue carrying that sacrifice every day.

May this empty chair remind us to live with gratitude, serve with purpose, and never forget.
