Today for Black History Month, we provide a window into the world of Executive Chef and CEO Omar Baker, who began his culinary experience as a young child growing up in the bustling streets and exotic landscape on the beautiful island of Trelawny, Jamaica.
Fueled by his passion at age 14 for culinary adventures and the "American Dream", Chef Baker embarked on a flavorful journey over the next 20+ years beginning in Jamaica and into the United States that led him from culinary school to lead cook and then executive chef of upscale restaurants, hotels, country clubs and on the best cruise lines traveling around the world.
Once settled in Georgia, Chef Baker met his current neighbor and business partner, Larry Pettway, and together during the height of the pandemic 2021 and after Chef Baker losing his only son August 2021, they transformed Chef's love for cooking into a restaurant and mobile gastronomic experience.
From navigating permits to crafting signature dishes, each step marked a chapter in his unconventional story as a small black business owner, serving up not just meals but memories on wheels where he reaches the hearts of many people turned family at Chef Baker's Place 2 food truck and restaurant located in the heart of Historic Downtown Jonesboro (309 N. Main St. Suite C).
