While it is true that the common unifier is death and weddings, I think that there is also room for comfort food as a means of connection. Our family experienced a very unexpected loss this week, and it brought us together in a way we haven’t been in almost a decade. I find that in times where I can’t be the sole planner or doer, I tend to offer comfort in the best way I know how. My suggestion of our “family pie” was met with enthusiasm, and I felt all the better knowing that after all the time and miles, we could enjoy something that she also enjoyed with us.
