Small Business Saturday
-
In 2018, I started making and decorating cookies for fun. I sold my very first order in October that year for $20/dozen.
In 2019, I decided this was something I really wanted to pursue. My sister mentioned the name Sugar Doodles and I fell in love. Business cards were made and there I started. That Christmas I was featured on KWTX.
By 2020, Sugar Doodles was booming. I slowly started introducing drop cookies and cookie cakes. I was doing around 40 dozen cookies a week. Covid hit and celebrations slowly began to cancel meaning little to no cookie orders. I donated over 2,000 cookies to HEB during the pandemic thanks to donations by you all, my customers. 2020 was also the rave of hot cocoa bombs. I think I did close to 500 cocoa bombs in December that year.
In 2021, business was so so good. Customers from near and far. I was finally finding “my style” and orders were higher than ever. I was so busy with business orders, drop cookies, cookie classes and custom orders. The request for delivery began to rise! People loved the convenience of delivery. (One blessing that came from Covid)
2022 - I bought and announced the opening of our food truck. I would now add homemade ice cream sandwiches to our menu. This purchase was due to Covid and the demand to “meet the people where they are.” We took the trailer all over - neighborhoods, businesses, near & far! The trailer also meant we were now in a commercial kitchen with a team of workers. No longer baking at home.
In 2023, I met my soon to be husband. We began offering homemade jumbo cinnamon rolls and my team expanded. On my 30th birthday I announced the opening of our first store front in Hewitt, Texas. A space so special and all to our self. A space for cookie classes, new team members, fellowship, friendship, trainings, sweet memories, late nights, old recipes and new tastings…
In Spring of 2024, we started offering “dirty” gourmet sodas and the trailer became known as Sugar Doodles Sips & Sweets. We were the first in Waco to showcase dirty sodas.
Fall 2024, we made the decision to close the store in Hewitt in order to focus on other adventures. We have a new space in mind and hope you’ll be able to find Sugar Doodles all over town very soon! We have expanded our menu each year and plan to continue that. Many new items & offerings coming in 2025.
It’s now Small Business Saturday in 2024 and I am sitting on the couch reminiscing. This dream started by watching a video on Instagram and a thought, “I could probably do that.” What a ride it’s been! 2024 is not over and we have so many more treats and goodies to share this year, but 2025 is looking better than ever already.
Thank you for supporting my small business. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We love new customers and welcome new relationships, but there’s something so sweet seeing so many of your names and faces year after year whether through an Instagram message, online order or at our pop-ups face to face. We couldn’t do any of this without you. Thank you for supporting us each and every year. We may be closing one door, but we’re nowhere near finished 😉
Big hugs,
Lauren
