Aloha Friends,
May 1st will mark the 25th Anniversary of K Bay Caffe and 20 years of roasting some of the worlds finest organic coffees. I can think of no better time, place or circumstances to announce that I will be passing on the reigns of K Bay today. Before you freak out, I truly believe the quality and consistency of the coffee will improve and that the absolute best person to steward the company forward will be at the helm. I am passing on K Bay to Carmen Ricciardi of Carmen's Gelato, a local/world class gelato and espresso shop that operates on the Homer Spit during the summer. Carmen is who I go to when I have coffee questions. His knowledge about espresso and machines is current, whereas mine is 10-20-30 years old. He has spent the last decade I have known him, pursuing espresso knowledge and is my current coffee guru. Just as I competed in the world barista championships, Carmen competed in the world gelato championships. We both studied and learned from the best in Italy, the birthplace of espresso and gelato. I have admired his work and attention to detail and quality of product for some time, but after having my daughter work with him last year, I can say I am impressed by all facets of how he leads a business. Again, he is current, he gets "it". He treats people as valuable humans and is wonderful at being able to pass on knowledge and empower folks to succeed. He improves the set up and working conditions as much as he is able and I am excited about the ideas he has already shared, that I know will improve how things are done here on the roasting side. I am really just so grateful knowing that the foundation, family and K Bay community that has been started and developed over the years is going to only improve moving forward, rather than fade into mediocrity as I develop other interests and am called to spend more time with family in Arizona. I'm not taking off and moving to Hawaii, which is a popular and well loved decade long rumor that was definitely the plan for a while but has taken a backseat to wanting a little more family time. I will be around to help facilitate a smooth and successful transition.
I want to thank you all with all the gratitude I can possibly express, for allowing me to be part of your journey, family and community over the years. The relationships, community and support that has been happening for several decades has been foundational in shaping the landscape of Homer and beyond. I am excited to witness the improvement and growth as K Bay gets a new set of hands and hearts to help guide it forward. This is really exciting for me on every level. I wish everyone all the best moving forward with continued success and joy. Thank You for Supporting Me, My Family, the Organic Coffee Farmers, Small Business and Being Part of the K Bay Community. I Love You All and look forward to the next phase of life.
Mahalo
With Love and Gratitude
