Every Thursday is a riff on a classic cocktail!

This week’s inspiration - The Rusty Nail 🥃

Our take:
- Dalmore 12 Year Scotch
- Drambuie
- Yellow Chartreuse
- Benedictine
- Flamed Lemon Peel

Invented in 1937, the Rusty Nail gained its fame as the favored cocktail of the iconic Rat Pack in the 50’s and 60’s - namely Dean Martin. After the rise in popularity of citrus based cocktails in the 80’s, the Rusty Nail fell out of fashion. However, it still remains a classic for Scotch lovers and has seen a resurgence in the new era of modernist bartending. Our riff keeps the core of the cocktail but supplements some of the Drambuie with Yellow Chartreuse and Benedictine for a more complex flavor profile. And, the addition of a Flamed Lemon Peel gives the cocktail a slight refreshing lift.

This week’s riff on a classic is inspired by the Bee’s Knees 🐝

Our Take:
- Tenhead Gin
- Peach Turbinado Syrup
- Lemon Juice
- Basil Infused Green Chartreuse

The Bee’s Knees is a classic Prohibition-era cocktail made with gin, lemon, and honey. Named after the common slang of the time, there is debate over the origination of the cocktail, but most experts agree Paris is the birthplace. Our take swaps the honey for a peach turbinado syrup and with the addition of green chartreuse and basil, this cocktail has a whole new identity! Let us know what you think!

The inspiration for this week’s riff on a classic… The Gibson.

Our Take: Ogre’s Are Like Onions
- Quechol Sotol
- Rockwell Dry Vermouth
- Cocktail Onion Brine

The Gibson Martini’s origins are widely debated. And there have been many different iterations. But the first written recipe appears in the 1908 printing of Cocktail Bill Boothby’s book - World Drinks and How to Mix Them. While an onion garnish is not mentioned in cocktail recipes until after prohibition, it has become a ubiquitous feature in all iterations. The Gibson recently had a resurgence when featured in the Netflix hit show, the Queen’s Gambit. Traditionally made with gin, dry vermouth, and optionally a splash of onion brine, our take swaps the gin for Sotol. This Mexican spirit adds a smoky, vegetal note that we feel adds complexity and depth to this savory cocktail.
