Hey there, if you can take a quick break, spend a moment, read this nice local story about creating memories, I think you’ll appreciate it… and probably relate to its generosity…

So I got a message a couple days ago from Rachel, one of our wonderful customers. Her husband of almost 20 years had passed just over a year and a half ago, and Sunday would have been his 61st birthday. Jim and Rachel would come into the ice cream shop most weekends, often with one, or both, of their now almost grown kids. In addition to his quiet smile, Jim was recognizable as he usually wore a Green Bay Packers hoodie! I am sure those who knew him best could tell me more about his love of the Packer’s cheese in addition to ice cream!

Well Rachel said they loved our shop! For me, it’s the ultimate compliment to hear that our hometown ice cream shop is the go-to “date night” for so many couples. And appropriately, this Sunday was a particularly hot humid day, a good day for ice cream. So in memory of Jim, she silently bought birthday ice cream for several hundred customers, each surprised at the gratitude of being told their order was “on-the-house”!

I am blessed to have the new wonderful Christian book store down the street as one of my tenants. Their mission and motto is “praise God and pay it forward”, encouraging the spread of kindness. Well, that is what I saw first hand. In the spirit of creating a lasting memory for others who have had loss, I just wanted to share the unexpected generosity of Rachel, and Jim, that I was able to witness this weekend.

So many reasons to come to Pop Huron this afternoon. One is the ice cream! Whiskey Toffee, Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler, Coffee Lovers and more of your favorites this afternoon. The second reason is the place. Games, pinball, great conversations all in our beautifully restored 100 year old gem downtown Huron.

But mostly it’s the people… our customers, yes your community! And we believe that giving to the community and others is a priority. And the giving continues. And frequently those in the community stand out with generousity, and we are proud to consider them our customers, and our friends!

So come by Pop Huron this afternoon! It’s a special day! We open at 3:00, and be a part of giving back to the community and through your community! And remembering that we are all here for friends, and family!

Don’t let a little rain keep you in…. Whiskey Toffee is back!!! So many of you have asked for it and we have it today and tomorrow! Something unusual…. How about Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler ice cream!!! Yes!!! Who doesn’t love that fresh taste! Ok, still on the fence…. Apple Crisp ice cream! Really!!!

Pop Huron is open now! From 3:00-9:00 Saturday and Sunday May 30 and 31. Come see us downtown Huron in the beautifully restored former Habicht’s Department Store at 274 Dakota Avenue.

Hi folks! Pop Huron will be CLOSED Thursday and Friday (May 28 and 29).

Can you please wait until this weekend to visit Pop Huron and enjoy a delicious ice cream in one of South Dakota’s most amazingly unique ice cream shops???

Our family, and our employees, are out on vacation this week, but we will be back Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31) from 3:00-9:00 to serve you!
