🎉Today marks FIVE years of Press Coffee on North Dodge Street!
In that time, we have been open every single day except one. It's been a fun, tough, demoralizing, uplifting, stressful, exciting, heartening ride. We have learned A LOT since we opened, so here are 5 lessons after 5 years.
1️⃣ LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
The first day open on Dodge Street was better than any day in the seven years Press was in Coralville.
2️⃣ Embrace what makes you different.
We got some side-eye over some of our decor choices before we opened, but many guests have cited the homey feel of our quirky knick knacks and furniture as the reason they love our space. Explaining the difference between French Press and pour-over coffee can be a mouthful sometimes, but clearly our full-bodied cup is bringing people back again and again.
3️⃣Have a partner in crime.
Running a business is a 24/7 job, so having a business partner is key in saving your sanity.
4️⃣ Be involved in the day to day.
Working alongside our staff and interacting with the guests who visit everyday is important to staying grounded and tapped into the pulse of our business.
5️⃣Less is more and more is less.
Don't sacrifice your main product by trying to do everything at once. However, do it now or you won't do it later. Running a business is full of catch-22s... It's a balance where quality is key.
We wouldn't still be here without the love and support of our community! Thank YOU for the five wonderful years. ❤️
