The Dog House was opened by Tank Lawson in July of 2015. Tank worked a full time job in law enforcement and he couldn’t find time for himself to sit and actually enjoy meals, so he found himself visiting Sonic or Dairy Queen pretty often! Tank thought to himself, “I have the property, the building, why don’t I open something convenient for all full time employees and for the community to get a quick, affordable, and delicious bite to eat?!” That’s when The Dog House was opened.

Q&A
Q: Name of your business?
A: “The Dog House”
Q: Why did you decide to pursue a career in the restaurant business?
A: “I have tried many different businesses before, but what it all comes down to is people are going to eat. As long as you have a good product, there’s always room for something different.”
Q: Best Dish?
A: I like the St. Bernard. It has a quarter lb. dog with chili, cheese, jalapenos, slaw, and bacon. However, we are actually incorporating BBQ beginning March. The Dog House will then be Lawson’s BBQ and my favorite BBQ is the pulled pork sandwich. It’s so good, you don’t need a sauce.”
“Changing over to BBQ, we will still feature our famous hot dogs but we will also have the best BBQ. We are going to have pulled pork, Ribs, and chicken.”
Q: Community Projects?
A: “I was sitting under my daddy’s magnolia tree one day and got a group together called, “The Magnolia Group” and decided to help before the school year to feed the kids and help about 200 children with giveaways. We partnered with Ameri-group in Savannah and got book bags together, gave them haircuts, had a pool party and a lot of other fun things for the kids. That to me was a good feeling that we could help some of the less fortunate children. It was a great experience and that’s something I would love to continue to do.”
Q: Favorite thing about Wayne County?
A: “I guess it’s also the worst thing, everybody knows everybody.” (Laughs) A very convenient little town compared to some of the other places I have lived.
Q: Anything you have learned over the years?
A: “Service, putting an extra touch on whatever your being paid for. Just because it’s a less expensive job, you always give more. I was taught that growing up and I would like to continue to pass that on.”
Q: Hours open?
A: “Right now were only open a few days a week but once we change over to “Lawson’s BBQ” in March we will be open 6 days a week, serving lunch and dinner. 10:30 to 6 or 7pm. Maybe even later in the summer months. Right now were only open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 10:30am-2:30pm.”
