Long post. TL;DR: You’re fu***ng rad. Thanks for keeping our dream alive and letting us feed you.
This is an iris I painted.
I just wanted to say that I have a profound well of gratitude for the community we’ve created here. Some of you have been with us for almost five years, and some of you walked through our doors for the very first time this weekend. The one thing you all have in common—other than being fu***ng rad—is that you choose to support the vessel for our dreams: Maple Hill Barn.
It really is the honor of a lifetime to serve you.
When I was new to working in restaurants, decades ago, a manager said to me, “You get to make people’s day better. Some people have to be out there giving parking tickets.” That always stuck with me.
Most of you don’t know this, but Tom and I met in high school in 2003. Around that time, he told me he planned to open a bar and restaurant someday, and my 14-year-old brain thought, That could be a pretty cool life to build with Tom. Then we went our separate ways, pursued different careers, and reunited about ten years ago.
My point is, Maple Hill Barn was always going to happen. It was always written in the stars.
The past five years have been a near-constant recalibration, with one steady intention: finding the Venn diagram of what works best for both you and us. After this last weekend, I genuinely feel like we’re closer to that than we’ve ever been.
As the world around us changes at breakneck speed, and as the institutions and structures that once made us feel secure continue to splinter, fracture, and crumble, our values will always remain constant: to provide you with homemade food made from real ingredients at the best price we can.
We hope to be a bright spot in your week.
Thank you for being here.
