I said goodbye to our staff on a zoom meeting. There were no hugs, no toasting or raising glasses like I had imagined. There wasn’t an attractive young couple standing in the dining room ready to take over; as I introduced them to all the regulars; feeling the excitement I once felt. We opened Truth in 2003. I was 34 years old with high expectations of what the restaurant would be; what would it look like; how would it change my life? 17 years later it has been the greatest gift, and heartache. More than I ever could have imagined. The decades I have spent in the restaurant business have allowed me to witness some of the best days in people's lives. The rehearsal dinners that buzz with the energy of what the future holds for the new couple. The holiday parties. The happiness of a baby shower or first communion. Surprise birthday parties as well as the thrill of a normal Friday night. The funeral luncheons of some of our regulars will also remain. These memories will forever be in my mind.
Our staff throughout the years have been comprised of some amazing people. Hard working, loyal, fun people who you’d be lucky to call your friend. Restaurant people are a different breed. Our staff, some of whom today are my nearest and dearest friends, have made me better in more ways than I can express. My admiration and gratitude for them is immeasurable. Thank you will never be enough.
I would be remised not to thank all the purveyors and sales people who over the years supplied us with much more than their products. Their loyalty, trust and friendship made it all the more fun.
Our regulars, our friends, as well as the not so frequent guest have also brought an amount of happiness that almost makes me weep when I think how fortunate I’ve been. I couldn’t be more sincere; and if I started listing all of you by name, this would never end.
Doug, for your unwavering capacity for understanding and accepting the long grinding hours and missed gatherings and events; thank you. This would not have been possible without you.
We thank you for allowing us to serve you for all these years. We thank you for becoming part of our family and trusting us, and supporting us. We thank you for the endless laughs and joy that all of you have brought to our lives. We are proud to have been part of the fabric that truly exemplifies small businesses everywhere.
We hope you will remember Truth fondly with a grin- that's how we’ll remember all of you.
With gratitude,
Kate
