Today, Kansas City honors Henry Perry, the man widely known as the Father of Kansas City barbecue. More than a century ago, Perry built something bigger than a meal. He helped shape a city’s identity through smoke, patience, hickory wood, and a style of barbecue that brought people together across Kansas City.

At Arthur Bryant’s, that history is personal. Charlie Bryant learned the barbecue trade working under Henry Perry, and Arthur Bryant carried that tradition forward, building a restaurant that became part of Kansas City’s soul. Every rack of ribs, every sandwich, every plate served at 18th & Brooklyn carries a piece of that lineage.

Today we honor Henry Perry’s legacy, his generosity, and the influence that still lives on in Kansas City barbecue.
