We’re sorry we’ve been silent the last month 💚 It’s been an emotional transition and we’re still finding our footing and gleaning lots of lessons from hindsight reflection.
We wanted to say a big THANK YOU so much for all of the heartfelt messages, support and encouragement. It has meant so much to us. We have felt your love and been encouraged by your stories of what KF meant to you.
We still aren’t sure what the future holds but we do know it will be a little while before any new adventures begin. Keep an eye on our stories for any news or updates. We love you. Each and every one of you. Truly.

We have some really tough news to share. As of today, Kind Food is officially closed. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to share a last meal or say goodbyes—the timing and situation just did not allow.

We know this is unexpected. We are so sorry. This is so very tough. Getting to connect with you and feed you these last 3 years has been an amazing experience, something we wouldn’t trade for anything. We are heartbroken to make such an abrupt departure.

We want to be transparent with you, friends, because you deserve to know.

We have spent the last 3 years growing, every day meeting new people and making them new fans. We’ve seen folx get behind the concept and share their gratitude with us for bringing Kind Food to life. We’ve collected nearly 250 five-star reviews on Google and pleased palates from across the country. Together, we’ve raised over $30,000 for local and national non-profits and causes. The concept and the food was needed and welcomed.

Unfortunately, in our inexperience we chose a new location that was just too large (aka expensive) for what we could sustain, even as we continued to grow. Coupled with rising costs across the board (product, utilities, labor, etc), staying above water was difficult. We pushed as hard as we could in hopes we’d pass a growth threshold before funds ran out but unfortunately our covid closure this summer put us in a hole we ultimately could not climb out of.

We explored every option we could think of in an effort to give us time for more growth, but there were just no great solutions. We ran out of funds and options to bring our costs for the space in line with our sales.

It has been very hard to accept the situation but we are doing the best we can to move forward with integrity and hope for the future. We’ve done our best to put our team first during this time. They are an amazing group who has given so much energy, love, time, patience, passion and hard work to make Kind Food what it is to each of you. We would not have made it as far as we did without our amazing crew.

The entire experience of opening and growing Kind Food these past few years has been such a gift—we have learned so, so much and grown so much as individuals. This may be the end of this road but it’s not the end of our mission or drive.

For now we will take time to grieve, recover and support our team. In the future, who knows what may happen. If there’s an opportunity to bring y’all burgers and queso and fried mushrooms in the future, we may just make it happen.

Stay connected with us here. We’ll check in now and then.

Also, please continue to support our amazing local vendors…

We love you. And we hope to connect again someday. Don’t forget to eat more plants and be good to people.

With love and heartfelt gratitude,
Chef Phillip & Jonelle

So many of you have asked for it that we’ve brought the Fun Guy Sandwich back on special this week 👏🏽 These local oyster mushrooms are hand breaded in small batches, fried and topped with sesame slaw, sriracha mayo, pickled onions and cilantro and served on a toasted roll.
Full of flavor, texturally balanced, delicious. How would you describe this sandwich?

Hi, friends. Chef Phillip and Jonelle here. We hope you’re doing well. We’re 6.5 months into our new location and, though we’re pretty exhausted, we’re so grateful for your support, kindness and attention. There’s some important and exciting news we want to share with y’all…
We are looking to add a business partner to our team — someone with conscience and heart who has a passion for vegan food and community, who believes in our mission and is looking for an opportunity to get involved in operations of a growing restaurant. Experience and a financial investment are required, in exchange for an ownership stake in the restaurant. This is a one-time opportunity.
Since our founding 4 years ago in August 2018, we have bootstrapped every stage of the business. We huffed our way from pop-up to pop-up, catering to catering, from our former location in a small shipping container kitchen in Iron District to our current brick-and-mortar in KCK. We have been blessed to have an amazing team come alongside us to help execute on our vision and grow. And we still remain actively involved every day, putting our all into the future of Kind Food.
As we look ahead to what’s next for Kind Food (and ourselves), we’ve seen an opportunity open up to bring on a business partner who can help us take what we’ve started and make it go farther than we can on our own. We’re excited about the possibilities and are looking forward to connecting with potential new partners.
If interested, the first step is to send an email to hello(at)kindfoodkc.com with your CV and references along with a detailed message about your interest. During our screening process, we will provide more information about the opportunity. Only serious inquiries will be considered. Thanks also for sharing this with others who you think might be a good fit for this opportunity.
With love and gratitude always,
Chef Phillip & Jonelle
