SuzAnne will be greatly missed by many!
I personally will treasure our memories and stories even way before being Kendallvilles finest Mayor was a thought 🩵

Some people are elected. Others become woven into the story of a community.

Former Kendallville Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe is one of those people.

A United States Marine who rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, she brought the values of service, discipline, and leadership home to Kendallville. In 2004, she made history as the city's first female mayor, but she never wanted that to be the reason people remembered her. She wanted to be remembered for doing the work—and she was.

Throughout her years in office, SuzAnne championed economic development, encouraged young people to believe in themselves, celebrated hometown pride, and never lost sight of the importance of neighbors helping neighbors. Even while courageously battling multiple myeloma, she continued serving the community she loved with strength, humility, and determination.

Communities aren't built by buildings alone.

They're built by people who choose service over recognition... who quietly make a difference one decision, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time.

Today, Kendallville Life simply wants to say...

Thank you, Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe.

Thank you for your years of leadership.
Thank you for believing in Kendallville.
And thank you for leaving a legacy that reminds us all what public service is truly about.
