Community oyster roasts have been a tradition at Mingo Point for decades. Our resort understands that oyster shells are a valuable natural resource, and we’ve been working with SC Department of Natural Resources to collect shells from our roasts. Using collected shells, such as these, our community has built 130 manufactured wired reefs (MWR).

On August 1st, staff from Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Kiawah Conservancy, SCDNR South Carolina Oyster Restoration and community volunteers will complete the final stage of this project as we install the MWR's into the salt marsh.
