On Saturday we were able to help Chris and Laurie Johnson celebrate the life of his mother, Janet. There was a huge crowd at the funeral and most stayed for dinner. We didn't get many pictures but you know the set-up. 😉 The pictures I wish I did get were of the special vegan/vegetarian/GF table we did. Special foods made to accommodate some guests included roasted vegetables, corn, cheesy potatoes, fruit tray, orange-glazed tofu, and peanut butter cookies. The rest of the guests had a fruit tray, confetti corn, roasted vegetables, cheesy potatoes, Italian smothered chicken, fruit & onion glazed pork, and assorted cookies (chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nut, Rockstar, monster, peanut butter, and lemon).

Our second event this weekend was to provide a celebration dinner for Randy Bennett's Ordination and installation as the pastor at First Congregational Church in Stanton. Thanks to his wife, Dr. Jodi Bennett, for the business, and congratulations to him!

Their dinner buffet included tossed salad, grape salad, green bean casserole, roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy, American smothered chicken, and fruit & onion pork loin. For dessert there was cheesecake (plain or with cherry topping) or brownie trifle.

Every other month we serve dinner to the public servants on the Montcalm Townships Board Association. Last night we were at the Coral Community Center serving a soup and salad bar with a couple of appetizers. Specifically, we provided a premium salad bar with leaf lettuce, spinach, ham, turkey, bacon bits, hard boiled eggs, shredded cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, diced peppers, radishes, red onion, sliced almonds, and croutons. Soup options were cabbage roll soup or creamy vegetable soup. The appetizers we served were watermelon feta salad on a stick topped with a strawberry balsamic glaze and bacon wrapped potatoes. And finally, there was chocolate or peanut butter sheet cake for dessert.

On Saturday, June 13th, we had the special honor of providing the luncheon after the service for Uncle Bud and Aunt Gin. Gin died in 2019 and Bud passed about a month ago. They're finally together again and now interned for all eternity. Kory's cousin, Morgan, presided and did a wonderful job with the service. Of course there were some tears, but overall the focus was on love: between them, for their family, and among friends and community. They are greatly missed and fondly remembered.

We provided a cold deli luncheon: ham & swiss or turkey & cheddar sandwiches, potato salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, a veggie tray, baked beans, and whole fresh fruit. Some of the family provided Aunt Gin's molasses cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate cake.

Special thanks to Barb, Sheila, and Sierra for running the show so I could be with family. Thanks to Pastor Bill and all the folks at UCC in Lakeview. You guys are always so accommodating and I love utilizing your facility.

One book, One County. I didn't even realize this was a thing, but all the libraries in Montcalm County collaborate on a book selection for summer book clubs. Today was the reveal at MCC and I was able to provide the meal. It was a simple meal of tossed salad, potato salad, calico baked beans, and shredded chicken sandwiches. There was apple pie for dessert from Anderson & Girls. It was a fun event and I'm excited to work with the great people at the college for future events.

PS- the book is titled "The Ride" by Kostya Kennedy. Happy 250th, USA!

On Sunday, May 17th we were able to help the family of Amparo Gonzalez (the elder) grieve her passing and celebrate her life. Her daughter, (also) Amparo, was the school secretary when I was still teaching. The younger Amparo's daughter, April Schaap, is my husband's niece's best friend. I hold this family close to my heart.

50+ family and friends met in The Gathering, the meeting space connected to The Red Lantern in Edmore. It was our first time at this venue. It was super cute and I look forward to future events here.

The mourners found comfort in each other and a shared meal. We were able to provide tossed salad, grape salad, confetti corn, rice pilaf, cheesy potatoes, American smothered chicken, carved roast beef, brownie trifle, and cheesecake.

Most people don't want to consider their own death, but it is inevitable. Even more so than taxes! Through catering and my years working at the church, I've interacted with many families at one of the most difficult times in their lives. So many people are overwhelmed by all the decisions that need to be made or doubt themselves when it comes to honoring their loved one. Pre-planning takes so much of the burden off your family. I highly recommend coming to check out what you can do to help them when the inevitable does happen. There's no cost for attending. No commitment. No pressure. And guess who's providing the light dinner??? Hope to see you there.

We were able to help Ken Palmer and family by providing the meal after the funeral service for Victoria Green. The cold deli meal included sandwich options offering rolls, turkey, ham, cheddar, Swiss, and assorted toppings. They also had potato and pasta salads and a veggie tray. Dessert included fresh fruit or Rockstar cookies (Tollhouse base with semisweet chunks, white chocolate chips, toffee bits, and pretzel pieces.) Of course, we had beverages, too.
