Yesterday I got to chat with Maher, the owner of Smith Floral & Greenhouses. We talked about our stories, ideas, and the dreams that started us both down our paths. And as I was leaving he handed me this little plant as a gift for our staff and shop. I am so grateful to know there are still people dreaming for our city and who are willing to share their wisdom with me. Thanks Maher! Enjoy your Saturday friends hope you have some good daydreams.

In the theme of East Lansing being built around education, we have decided to view this post as sort of a graduation announcement.

We began this year with a goal to get back to our original mission, and that means we must say goodbye to our Trowbridge Rd location. Friday 5/29 will be our final day of business in that space. We have enjoyed all the stories and friends we got to meet through this location. We are forever grateful to the supportive neighbors and landlords as we make this transition.

If you are looking for a space for your shop you should meet some great landlords river_caddis. They are amazing people with a heart to see people grow and succeed.

Thank you for all the memories. Hope to see you at the REO Town shop friends. Here’s to tomorrow and finding our way back to the beginning. Our hearts are heavy and hopeful at the same time and we are grateful for every bit of it.

The past few days we have faced a part of life no one is ever prepared for. As we step back into routines and try to find comfort in them we are still confused and full of questions. I walked into our shop yesterday and found friends in the same state of mind. Full of love and offering hugs. I watched as our neighbors helped the staff clean and keep the shop moving as normal as it could. I heard stories and even small bits of laughter over shared memories of our friend. It softened the edges of the stark hole in my thoughts. We are grateful to be a part of such a loving community. Thank you for caring for us and each other so well. We love you sincerely. Marlo would be proud to see how we all came together to carry each others pain and stand to heal together. We did today together and we look forward to many tomorrows doing the same. REO Town you are a very special place full of brilliant and resilient people. We are beyond thankful for you. Keep talking to each other, doing the small acts of kindness when no one is watching because it really does change a world.

The room smells as usual and everything is in its place. But nothing is the same. You aren’t here and it is a confusing hollow sadness that sits with me. We miss you Marlo. We may never understand what happened entirely. But here’s what I hold onto and why we walk back into this room.

I will never forget when you told me “I’m here because I love this place and its people. I just want to make sure that there is a place like this always”

The time you held me as I cried overwhelmed with the weight of everything happening. No questions or need for explanation just an honest hug.

You loved deeply and were protective of those you loved.

We are honored to call you friend.
We will do our best to continue the mission you loved so much. You are always in our hearts and a treasured piece of our story. Rest in Peace Marlo. We love you.
