We found ourselves in Haslett Michigan this week. Our destination was a classic country diner called, Blondie's Barn .
We have driven past this locally popular diner hundreds of times, but have never eaten there. Well, the time has finally come.
The decor, like I mentioned above, is very country classic...Which is quite comforting. The restaurant is clean and tables were quickly bussed, but, I would like to see a little more deep cleaning around the decor hung on the walls and ceiling. This is a common miss for many small and large restaurants...But should be regularly addressed. We've had the unfortunate experience of a big wad of dust bunnies fall onto our food before and that is not a pleasant experience. Outside of that observance, it was the only negative of our visit.
We were there early in the day so Jenifer and I both got the same thing...Eggs (over easy), bacon, sausage, ham, fried potatoes and pancakes. Now, I am a pancake snob or an afficionado, if you will. In otherwards I LOVE pancakes! These cakes were some of the best I've had. They were fluffy in the the center. Perfectly crusted around the edges and delicious. They came with a soft, creamy, whipped butter that always serves well with pancakes. The syrup was a very good maple syrup and I didn't have to ask for extra...Bonus points for that.
The eggs, potatoes, ham and bacon were cooked well and tasted great. The sausage unfortunately was not to our liking...But that is purely just a personal preference thing. I would likely just get all bacon next time, instead of the sausage and ham.
Our Waitress was very nice, attentive and personable. The food came out quick, fresh and the portions were plentiful. Overall, it was a good experience and we would not hesitate to come back.
