Born in 19th-century Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), bánh mì is the ultimate flavor remix. When the France occupied Vietnam, they brought baguettes, pâté, and mayo. The Vietnamese said, “Cool… but let’s make it actually exciting,” and added pickled carrots & daikon, cilantro, jalapeños, cucumbers, and savory meats.
The result? A crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside sandwich that hits sweet, salty, tangy, spicy, and umami all in one bite. Basically, the overachiever of sandwiches.
Fun fact: “Bánh mì” literally just means “bread” in Vietnamese. So when you say “bánh mì sandwich,” you’re technically saying “bread sandwich.” We support it anyway.
