SPOTIFY. After five years of Taverna, I figured it was time to start working on a new set of Taverna playlists of all of the musicians who have played here. Vegas Underground (.underground) is putting on some 20+ shows a month now — many of them at Taverna — and has come to more or less reflect the younger, local up-and-coming indie band scene, while hosting increasingly bigger and bigger touring acts.
Las Vegas is a town of professional entertainers, so it makes sense that there are a lot of talented young musicians here. Stylistically, the bands run the gamut, but if there were such a thing as a “Vegas sound” in these bands, I would posit that it leans heavier and is predominated by some variety of shoegaze, pop punk, and metal.
It’s just what the kids are playing.
The Taverna Costera: Vegas Underground playlist features over 130 acts — most of them local — covering basically everybody who has played a Vegas Underground show at Taverna. It starts with Las Vegas local bellwethers Pure Sport () and High Sierra Club (), before bringing in the Clarion () song “Hello Juliet” with over 50 million plays on Spotify.
One of my favorite performances ever at Taverna was Upon Your Dead Body () from Texas playing “Orange Hill Drive” in the courtyard.
If you’ve played a VU show at Taverna and I missed you (some of you guys are hard to find), just hit me up and I’ll put you in.
Basically every artist gets a track on this list, though some artists — including Pure Sport, HSC, Appleseed (), Drowning Spree/Elevated Undergrounds (), Aethereal (), and The X-Flowers () — have multiple tracks, usually because I’ve posted videos of those songs. The extra songs are stacked at the end of the playlist.
All it takes is one banger. Both “Windmill” by Andre Caballero () and “Every Time I Dance” by Fooski () near the top have under 1,000 plays each on Spotify, but both are pretty good bangers I think.
More playlists coming. DM me if you need the link.
