Housatonic Cafe

Housatonic Cafe Housatonic Café is simply the best sandwich shop in Berkshire County, bar none! Also, home to Pomelos Real Fruit Italian Ice, yummy smoothies &tastey coffee

The Housatonic Cafe is the Berkshires #1 source for quality deli cuisine and refreshing Italian Ices. The cafe is housed in a beautifully restored Victorian house, with plenty of seating both indoors and out. Our full deli menu features only the highest quality meats and cheeses from Boars Head, and our Italian meats are fresh from Italian kitchens. But what really sets us apart is our breads, all

sandwiches are served on local breads from renowned bakeries such as Berkshire Mountain Bakery in Housatonic. Although our sandwiches are the best, theres only one thing better; and that's Pomelos Real Fruit Italian Ice. These ices are made fresh in the back of the cafe, out of only the finest ingredients. Our ices use real fruit, real sugar and never any dairy or dextrose equivalents. Due to its unique blend, Italian ice is a healthy alternative to ice cream or gelato. Bursting with refreshing fruit flavor, and boasting one daily serving of fruit plus zero fat! Pomelos is what hits the spot on those hot summer days.

The Cafe has a great suggestion for you to get out and enjoy Berkshire County this Saturday. In Pittsfield, the Berkshire Craft Beer Festival runs from 1pm to 5pm, with live music and over 130 craft beers available for sampling. We all know that drinking on an empty stomach is an awful idea, so we suggest stopping by the Cafe before enjoying the Festival and loading up your stomach with one of our wonderful sandwiches. For those of you coming off the Masspike or coming from South County, the Cafe is a convenient stop on the way to the Festival.

If you are looking for something fun and different to do this weekend, consider jumping in your automobile and heading to the Berkshire hills to take in a few independent films at the 11th Annual Berkshire International Film Festival. Films are showing virtually all day, through Sunday, on numerous screens at the Triplex in Great Barrington and the Beacon in Pittsfield. And another suggestion, possibly even a better one and definitely a complimentary one: stop by the Cafe when you get off or are getting on the Masspike in Lee, or make the Cafe another destination for your visit. While at the Cafe, enjoy the refreshing taste of our first batch of Italian ice this season (coconut, lemon, lime and mango).
If you visit the festival, make sure to let us know how you liked it during your next visit at the Cafe and we hope to see you there!

Housatonic Cafe is offering up a cheezy, slightly sweet treat that will tantalize your taste buds! This bad boy marries Danish smoked gouda cheese with Boars Head maple honey turkey (a little sweetness borrowed from New England's beautiful maple trees), tantalizingly sweetened with Vlasic sweet bread pickles, all sandwiched between two slices of Berkshire Mountain Bakery wheat bread(a repeat Food Network featured producer) that has been lightly slathered with Russian Dressing - all grilled on a panini press (yes - NO GREASE!) to warm you up on these cold New England days! A unique sandwich combination that you will only find at the Housatonic Cafe - hope to see you soon!

It's getting near time for St Nick to come down the chimney and the first task at hand will be to fill those stockings that he brushes aside as he climbs out of the fireplace. Is he still struggling to figure out what those who are nice should be getting in there stockings?

Well, here is a great stocking stuffer idea for St Nick: stop by the Housatonic Cafe and get a pound of our delish small batch roasted coffee. The coffee has usually been roasted within the last few weeks, is roasted in small batches and tastes phenomenal. We characterize the taste as bold without bitterness: we think you will agree.

The coffee beans are a unique gift because the Housatonic Cafe is the only place in Massachusetts where you can get the beans. For a real coffee drinker, one of the real gastronomic pleasures in life is to have a cup of coffee that tastes like none they have had before: these beans will deliver that experience.

A side benefit is that the bags offer a great price point for filling a good portion of a stocking.

Did we forget to say, I think we did, that when you purchase a pound for St Nick to stuff, you also get a little gift: a free cup of coffee.

Merry Christmas from Jim and the Staff at the Cafe!

Today, we are proud to announce the new batches of Italian ice that will be making a appearance in the store. Not only will we be restocking ices such as Lemon, Strawberry, and Coconut, we will also be offering a new variety of fruity flavors! We will be adding Raspberry Coconut, and (thanks to the wonderful suggestion of one of our customers) Cherry Lemon! If you’re in the area, stop by and give the flavors try!

As you guys all know, the Housatonic Café is the sole vendor of Pomelos Real Fruit Italian Ice. This delicacy is made IN the café, and is usually only available to you wonderful people who have visited the café. However, we also provide this unique, refreshing, and memorable treat at events such as weddings, and baby showers. And all that, amazingly, makes a smaller dent in your wallet than any wedding cake ever will. However, if you feel a wedding just isn’t a wedding without that special cake, the ices can provide a swanky, fruit-full, fat-free confectionary partner in sugar crime to the wedding cake.
Recently, the Café served two customers with tremendous levels of enthusiasm and creativity regarding the process of wedding planning; our ideal partners. These two wonderful women are Lauren and Ruthie from Eutopia Events, New England's premier wedding and event planners. This upcoming weekend, May 3rd and 4th, the women will be hosting a wedding event and flea market in Easthampton, MA that will truly display their passion and inventiveness. For more information on the event, visit the website www.eventiquesfleamarket.com. For an even better idea of the enthusiasm and creativity that drives this one-of-a-kind event visit the page www.facebook.com/eventiquesfleamarket. We are psyched to let you guys know that we have just received the first batch of chevre cheese for the season! At the Café, we use the top quality chevre in our delicious October Mountain sandwich, which tastes magnificent lightly grilled (if we do say so ourselves). We also offer the aptly named Rawson Brook salad, which features the mouth-watering delicacy that we’re proud to have in stock again.

We source our chevre from Rawson Brook Farm, a local farm in Monterey, which is located 12 miles from us here at the Housatonic Cafe ́. As we are unable to access the fresh chevre cheese during the months of deep winter here in Massachusetts, we are ecstatic to welcome the fresh chevre cheese back to the menu. While we offer chevre in the winter months, nothin’ compares to the wonderfully fresh chevre we just had delivered for the first time this spring season! If you are in the neighborhood, drop in at the Café and treat yourself to some of this awesome cheese.

Also, if you have young kids of your own, or if you get a thrill out of visiting farms, Susan – the owner of Rawson Brook Farm – welcomes guests. The farm is kept unbelievably clean and she treats her goats with loving care. A review on Yelp provides a good picture of the pleasure of a visit to Rawson Brook Farm (http://www.yelp.com/biz/rawson-brook-farm-monterey ). Driving to or from the Café to her farm provides a scenic ride through the Tyringham Valley in the Central Berkshires, and is a pleasant way to spend a few hours together enjoying Berkshire County.

Hope to see you soon – happy travels!
