This bookstore owner is tired. I’ll have to look in the computer and see how many books I’ve organized. I think I started out with about 180-190 boxes. I have 13 left to unpack. Also, I either ordered too many kids and fantasy books or didn’t allocate enough bookshelf space. So, when we open Saturday, the store will still be a work in progress because I’m going to have to rearrange some things. Right now, my focus is getting boxes unpacked!

Strange angle, isn’t it? I’m taking a break and doing one of my favorite yoga poses: legs up the wall. Or bookshelf. I find this pose helps me feel grounded and also helps my legs feel less tired. Anyone else do yoga? What’s your favorite pose?

I started Bruyere Books & Tea because I’m q***r and neurodivergent (ADHD and autism) and I wanted to have a treasure trove of books I’d never seen in a bookstore. I wanted people to feel welcome and safe. I wanted to build a community, not just sell books. I’m really excited to open on Saturday!

Our mission has always been bigger than books.

We created this space to celebrate q***r stories, neurodivergent voices, and the beautiful diversity of human experience. We believe everyone deserves to see themselves reflected on the shelves, to feel welcome when they walk through the door, and to know that they belong exactly as they are.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the resilience, creativity, joy, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ people. It's also a reminder that visibility, representation, and community matter.

We're proud to support the LGBTQIA+ community in June, and we're just as proud to support it in July, October, February, and every other month of the year.

At Bruyere Books & Tea, inclusion isn't a seasonal display. It's part of who we are.
