( From Feb - 2023)
-"Remember how far you've come, not just how far you have to go. You may not be where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be" -
I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support and love over the past few weeks. It meant so much to me.
I also want to give a huge thank you to my friend Andrea Phox and
for this picture. It that fills me with so many emotions and caught a moment in time that showed me my vulnerability and my strength at the same time. I love her for that. It's a picture I can look at when I'm feeling overwhelmed and see someone who's not going to go give up or ashamed.
-“Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you.” - is a quote of inspiration and a mantra I try to keep in my heart.
The surgery next week will be a very challenging one, but it's just another chapter in my life's journey.
Mouth cancer has banged me up several times and has taken its toll on our lives over the years.
As a chef it has especially hit hard. The effects to overcome were difficult and I tried to kept it to myself most of the time. This challenge I set my sights on being able to get back to doing what I love again and to share that passion. I miss being in the kitchen, working on menus, creating dishes, sharing a few words and hugs with customers and friends as I would run across the dining room and being a part of something that is so special to Michael and I.
This is just another road I'm taking. A road none of us choose but a road we have to travel and one I hope you allow to let me share with you. Cancer is something to not be ashamed of.
Cancer affects all of us in one way or another and hopefully telling a story of survival and strength can help someone else who needs to know they are not alone and have to keep going and fighting.
I didn't start this battle but I will always fight as hard as I can to keep the faith.
Thank you
Sammy
