Not just for grand openings 🥳 is serving chicken Yakitori every Tuesday night from 630 - 1030 pm

While most of our menu has remained the same Yakitori was something we always dreamed of serving but never had the set-up for. It’s been so much fun to work with Morita-San to develop this menu over the past 6 months.

Reservations are strongly recommended, see our Yelp reservation link in bio to book your table 🍱

Thanks to all that came out for our Grand Opening event.

We had a wonderful Tuesday evening with old and new friends.

A very big thank you to our forever friend for MCing the evening and being a wonderful host to our guests. In case you missed the speeches Tamlyn and Kenji have known one another since their teens!

And a very big hug to our friend for making time in his crazy busy schedule to be a part of the Kate and Karen mural dedication to their grandmother and great aunt.

So many people came out to celebrate with us and we are so grateful to this community for being there for us through everything.

Lots of updates to come!

But for now we ask that everyone send good vibes to our owner Kenji Suzuki who is heading in for a hip replacement surgery tomorrow!

He says when he comes back he’ll be the quickest server on staff 👟👟👟💨💨💨

We are open 7 days a week from 11AM for lunch, dinner and late night meals.

Let’s continue making memories together

Wow!

We can’t believe that it’s been a month since we moved! Hundreds of boxes and a lifetime of memories have been safely transported to our new location. And believe it or not we managed to unpack everything in less than a week!!!

We are super grateful to everyone that’s been able to join us in the just a few blocks from our iconic First Street location.

Kate, one of Kenji’s daughters, drew Daichan at an impromptu sketch session with our ‘artist in residence’ the other night. When you stop by you’re sure to see her and her sister drawing at one of the booths or passing out candy to visitors. As the third generation of our family owned business she encourages you all to stop by and say hello 👋

Let’s continue making memories together ♥️

Thank you Little Tokyo for 52 Years!

(We survived longer than we thought we would when we had this banner made 😂)

We were at 337 E 1st for over 30 years and during that time we hardly threw anything out. So when we packed up for our move we discovered a lot of amazing items, including Junko and Yuriko’s original time cards!!!

Packing up and cleaning out an entire restaurant in 12 days is no easy feat but thanks to you, our amazing community, we did it.

At first we were tempted to rent a storage unit and take everything with us but thanks to the support of our moving team we were able to find Little Tokyo homes for many Suehiro items. We are very grateful to our friends and neighbors for accepting our lightly and heavily used items.

If you look carefully you’ll be able to find a Suehiro dining table .ramen.dtla and coming soon to Honda Plaza camera and film shop. Even our coffee machine found a home in their break room.

We were also very happy that wanted the unagi don sauce pourer, took mugs and saucers and that accepted some number marking tools that we are still uncertain about what they were used for.

It feels better leaving when we know that pieces of Suehiro have been sprinkled around Little Tokyo and now reside with the future of the neighborhood.

Over the years our business been a part of long time Little Tokyo community organizations such as the Little Tokyo Safety Patrol and the Little Tokyo Business Association and more recently we really appreciate the support we received from the Little Tokyo Community Council and the Little Tokyo Service Center.

When we announced the closure reached out to request a few archival Suehiro items for an upcoming food exhibit. We are so honored. Junko and Yuriko dedicated their lives to sharing the culture of Japan through Japanese comfort food. It’s amazing that two women with no business experience will be documented for their contribution to the American immigrant experience.

This departure is bittersweet but it’s only temporary! For now let’s continue to make memories together

Last summer when we began to plan for we asked for your help to bring the spirit of our Little Tokyo location with us. We sent out a survey, both hard copy in store and online, with four short questions including

“Any suggestions for Suehiro’s new location? Menu, decorations, or things we should carry over from the old location?”

We received over 1000 responses with the overwhelming responses dedicated to interior features such as our use booth and the lunch board.

We hear you and we are currently on our third round of design updates including a Suehiro Cafe museum located at the bottom of the stairs on your way to the restrooms.

Today we complete about 80% of the classic Suehiro Cafe booth installation but there are still a few details missing… can you see what’s still not installed at the booth?

We also began the installation of a second iconic Suehiro Cafe interior decor piece. Any guesses what our team is installing next?

We expect this first part of the Suehiro museum to be completed for by the weekend. Please stop by and see it for yourself!

More updates to come! Including the Suehiro Cafe Community Night and a chance to win an original Suehiro Cafe mug ♥️
