Chef Mimi collaborated with the incredible Chef John Cleveland on a limited time VEGAN PIZZA 🍕available through the month at as part of the event 💋 The pizza features a fennel cream sauce, crispy kale, mushrooms, parm 🧀 and Calabrian chili 🌶

Reminiscing over the handmade pasta days 🥲 My team and I miss cooking for you all so much! We miss seeing the excitement on your face when trying something new and whipping up specials you can’t find anywhere in the city! 🥙 Counterpart Vegan was our ♥️ heart and soul ♥️We’ve raised nearly $6,000 for our GoFundMe, which moves us all to tears! 😭🥲

We still have a long way to go but your love and support is fueling our strength to keep moving forward with rebuilding Counterpart Vegan in a new space! 💪🏽

Today, we thank Johnny G (Mimi’s “rock”) for his hard work and sunshine spirit 🌞 Sharing his story here 📝

“Counterpart became like a family for me. A solid team who always got the job done. I came to work with a smile on my face every day and it never failed. I want to give a big thanks to all the teammates, especially, Chef Mimi. She is so supportive and understanding. I never worked in a vegan restaurant but the first day I stepped into Counterpart I knew I was in for a big surprise. Working at Counterpart Vegan changed my life. I miss my job and I miss my team. Counterpart Vegan was everything I ever wanted. The mangers and owners and employees were so positive & motivated. Going to work made my days. It was the first job in 23 years that I actually loved coming to.

I feel like once I lost my job everything went down the drain. I’m just a father of 2 kids trying to get my life on track and become a new man, a role model, and a motivator. With this job I was going to move my two babies into a home. That was the dream I always had. One of my biggest goals. Life is hard where I come from. I looked up to the counterpart. My job ❤️ it gave me hope in a lot of things, so I’m saying this to let you and everyone know that Counterpart Vegan made positive impacts on people’s lives. It changed people’s lives and brought smiles to people’s faces.”

As this year finally 👏🏽 comes 👏🏽 to an 👏🏽 end, we are reflecting on all the incredible people that brought our Counterpart Vegan to life that we miss so much 🥲

Here is our talented sous chef, Leslie Tarian, in her element at the Elysian Valley Community Garden 🪴👩🏻‍🌾 She carried this ship side-by-side with Mimi 👯‍♀️

She shares, “I loved working at Counterpart! Our chef, Mimi, and our team were all very talented and we had a lot of fun making delicious vegan food. It would be wonderful to reopen and bring back a great vegan option to the community.”

It’s been one long week since we closed our doors at Counterpart Vegan. The outpour of love and support from all of you have moved each one of us to tears 🥲

We feel the IMPACT we’ve had on our community and feel fired up to come back stronger than ever 💪🏾

Many have asked how to SUPPORT us right now. Our main goal is to raise enough funds to find a new space in a warm environment to bring back our restaurant and our entire staff! Please continue to share our 💜 GoFundMe ✨link in bio ✨we promise to return your generosity in gift cards or refunds if we do not reopen.

You can also express your feelings directly to our landlord, who refused to work with us in the smallest of ways to keep our restaurant open. While government aid is critical, small businesses can’t survive without the support of their landlords who claim to want to see a community flourish. NOW is the time to hold those in power accountable 🙅🏽‍♀️

To all our beloved friends and supporters, it is with a heavy heart that I share with you that we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Counterpart Vegan today. When I joined the kitchen last year, I never imagined becoming an owner and having my vision for the restaurant celebrated with such genuine love and support. We were able to create pure sustainable art that was comforting and familiar during an uncertain time and we will come back stronger than ever to cook for you again.

As the owner and executive chef, my team and I worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to keep our restaurant operating, our staff employed, and our community fed. Unfortunately, as is often the case in LA, what is good for the community and small businesses does not always matter to those in control of real estate, no matter how dire the circumstances are.

Counterpart Vegan's story and journey does not end here. My hope is to reopen in a new location in Echo Park next year. My team surprised me with a link to a GoFundMe page to support this next phase of development, which I am sharing in our bio. This is a difficult time for everyone and so I pledge to return every donation if we are not able to reopen and if we do, I will return the generosity with a gift card that matches each person's donation to be enjoyed at our new location. Even if you can’t donate, we appreciate you continuing to follow us and spread the word.
