It's soup season and being that we are a Creole heritage based company, we wanted to share some true and authentic Gumbo making 101 and history especially since a lot of people really don't know the history behind gumbo or the true recipe for making authentic, Creole, gumbo.
So here we go....gumbo is a rich and hearty soup-like dish from South Louisiana that was created from blends of local ingredients and South Louisiana cultural. It is a signature part of south Louisiana that was founded around 1803.
Gumbo is made with seafood (shrimp, blue crabs, chicken, smoked meats (tasso, sausage), trinity (onions, bell peppers and celery), seafood stock, roux and spices including file, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt and black pepper. You can put fresh okra in it to make it thicker. Make sure that you cook all of your meats before putting it in your stock and add your seafood (shrimp and blue crabs) last as they do not take long to cook.
Here at Bailey Rae Events, LLC our seafood gumbo embraces the rich culture of southern Louisiana and our Creole heritage passed down from generations. We stick to our tradition of good, old fashioned Louisiana Creole seafood gumbo.
