Our animal companions evoke a level of love and compassion so easily by simply just being who they are. They are unabashedly themselves, with no idea how to be anything but.
The world has fallen in love with Aloka as we all watched with love as he walked dutifully, with pride and peace and protective energies by his friends, the venerable monks.
And then he faced hardship and has had to have a surgery on his leg. We witnessed Aloka's sadness, looking forlorn at the vet's, missing his monk friends, his tail no longer wagging.
Yesterday, I started to cry softly, with happiness, as I saw Aloka's tail wag with pure joy, when he was briefly reunited with the monks. Aloka knew he was filled in that moment with bliss, as he was reunited with the souls he is aligned with, connected to most deeply. We knew he was filled with bliss, watching that tail and that smile on his face return.
Animals are emotionally intelligent. They feel. They love. They know comfort. Not just dogs and cats. Horses, cows, chickens, pigs, birds, and on and on. My own experience with chickens this year opened my eyes and heart regarding their emotional intelligence... they remember me, they come to say hello when I visit.
When we expand our love and compassion to the whole of the animal kingdom, we expand our capacity to love, to feel, to relate, and to be truly empathic beings.
Thank you Aloka for walking this path of peace and teaching us how to be more compassionate humans.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey held a presser Wednesday after the Department of Homeland Security said a federal law enforcement officer shot a person in Minneapolis who they say had fled a traffic stop and then, along with two other people, began attacking the officer.
